Marie Garroute

Marie Garroutte, life long resident of Prue was born November 4, 1920 in Prue, Oklahoma the daughter of Hugh and Martha (Broam) Yarbrough. As a young girl Marie grew up and received her education in Prue where she later graduated. She was also a member of the Prue Womenís Home Demonstration Club while in school. On May 4, 1940, Marie was united in marriage to Lloyd Garroutte in Hominy, Oklahoma. They made their initial home in Prue then later moved to Tulsa. While living in Tulsa Marie accepted employment with Douglas Aircraft during World War II. She also worked for a tent manufacturer; making tents for the troops. After Lloyd returned from the U.S. Navy he and Marie returned to ìOld Prueî. They continued to reside in Prue until the completion of Lake Keystone. At at that time the couple purchased property at ìNew Prueî and built their current home where they continued to reside.

Mrs. Garroutte enjoyed sewing; she would often sew clothes for her family that she loved dearly. She also enjoyed getting her family together to can vegetables making that into a family project. Marie was also a substitute teacher and Sunday school teacher for many years. Mrs. Garroutte was a dear and faithful member of the Prue First Baptist Church.

Marie Garroutte went to be with her Lord and Saviour December 8, 2007 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years 1 month and 4 days. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Randall Garroutte, three brothers and two sisters

Survived by her loving husband of over 67 years Lloyd of the home; two sons, Kenneth Garroutte and wife Linda; Dennis Garroutte and wife Mary all of Prue, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Luona Barnes and husband Glenn of Prue, Oklahoma; Kerri Floyd and husband Jeff of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Keith Garroutte of Prue, Oklahoma; Kendra Garroutte of Houston, Texas; Kayla Barnard and husband Tyler of Omaha, Nebraska; eight great grandchildren Lori, Kara, Michael, Nick, Brianna Savanah, Hannah and Andrea as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will include Nick Floyd, Michael Savage, Kenny Savage, Ray Morey, Tom Whorton, Ronnie Morey, and Bill Morey.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Garry McDevitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
