Lula Nix

Lula Mae Nix, 86, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Lula was born September 17, 1932, in Hallett, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Victor and Rebecca Ann (Huff) Mills. Lula grew up in Jennings where she attended school. Lula was united in marriage to the love of her life Arnold Dean Nix on December 24, 1947, on the Nix Family farm near Jennings, Oklahoma. Lula and Arnold established their initial home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The couple had two children William and Phillip. In the early 1950’s, the couple moved to Sand Springs, Oklahoma where they have continued to reside. Lula was a stay at home mom and homemaker for many years. After the children were older, Lula began working at the shoe department in Dillards in the 1960’s at Utica Square. She later accepted a position with the Salvation Army, before working at Vandevers at Southroads Mall until her retirement.

Lula loved being around her family and friends. Gatherings during the holidays were always special to her. She enjoyed preparing meals and having those who she adored close to her. Lula felt that some of her greatest accomplishments in life were being married to Arnold for over 68 years, having two sons that were healthy, as well as being able to be a significate part of her grandchildren’s life. She was also very proud of the fact she completed her GED and had two years of college classes and yearned of obtaining her college degree. During the time Lula was younger she liked going to Sunny Brook school because “she loved to learn.” She would often reminisce of the times with her cousins swimming at “Dead Man’s Hole.” Lula was also an active part of the Garden Heights Freewill Baptist Church. She played the piano and was proud to have learned that ability at a young age. Lula always felt that it was necessary to love the Lord with all your heart so that He would be with you daily. Lula had several hobbies which include playing the piano, crocheting, painting, ceramics and growing her beautiful flowers in her yard. She would often tell people that “if it is worth doing, then it is worth doing it right.”

Survivors are two sons, William David and his wife Nina Nix of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Phillip Arnold and wife Linda Nix of Mounds, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Mary Trekell, Jeremy Nix, Zachary Nix and Meredith Stilwell; four great-grandchildren, Brandon Lee, Brett Trekell, Tyler Nix, Palmer Nix, Lennon Nix; a great-greatgrandchildren, Jase Lee, Reagan Lee; sister Elnore Moore of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, sister in law Lucille Maxwell-Ellison of Sand Springs, Oklahoma and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Lula was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Dean Nix, six brothers Edgar, Henry, Richard, Frank, Victor, and Bill Mills, three sisters Gladys, Alpha as well as an infant sister Audra Mae.
