Lottie Leota Nichols

Celebrating the life of Lottie Leota Nichols will be 10:00 am, Monday, June 30, 2008 in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Lonestar Cemetery in Rocky, Oklahoma on the family plot under the local direction of Kiesau Lee Funeral Home.

Lottie was born June 6, 1920 on the family farm north of Rocky, Oklahoma the daughter of Thomas and Nora (Merchant) Payton. As a young girl Lottie was raised and received her education in the town of Rocky while attending the one room school at Mt. Zion. After the completion of her education she continued to reside in Rocky helping the family on the farm. On May 6, 1939 Lottie was united in marriage to Everett LaVerne Nichols in Hobart, Oklahoma. After their marriage they established their initial home in Oklahoma City. While residing in Oklahoma City, Lottie worked at McDonnell Douglas during World War II as "Rosie the Riveter". In 1945, Lottie and Everett returned to Rocky, Oklahoma and began farming 4 miles east of town. Then in 1956, they moved to California following the "American Dream". Lottie and Everett soon returned to Cordell where they remained until 1959. At this time Lottie began working as a waitress. She worked for several different local restaurants and cafes which included Nadene's, Gobers and the Red Barn in Cordell. They later moved to Brownsville, Texas when Everett accepted employment with the Department of Transportation. In 1962, Lottie moved to Clinton, Oklahoma where she remained for over 45 years. While residing in Clinton she worked at the Kellwood Factory as a seamstress as well as for Daniel's Drive In. She later worked for Noah's Ark Day Care and then later had a home day care for many years. In 2007, Lottie moved to Mustang, Oklahoma to be near her children due to her failing health.

Mrs. Nichols was a lady of many talents some of them include sewing, cooking, crocheting, embroidering and quilting. She was very emphatic to make certain that each of her children and grandchildren had a quilt made by her. Lottie was one that enjoyed company she would often visit for numerous hours at her home or at the local caf. She loved to travel no matter where they were going. Lottie cherished having her family with her which often revolved around eating. She was a life long dedicated member of the Church of the Firstborn most recently attending the Purdue Assembly.

Lottie L. Nichols went to be with her Lord and Saviour Thursday evening June 26, 2008, at her home in Mustang, Oklahoma at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband Everett Nichols, one daughter Vera Lee Nichols, one son Eddie Nichols, one brother Kenneth Payton, three sisters Ruth Lowe, Gladys Etsell, Vera Elston and a son in law Chito Torres.

Survivors include her two daughters LaNita Torres of Mustang, Oklahoma; Verna Foust and her husband Scott of Yukon, Oklahoma, one brother Arlie Payton and his wife Malacha of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two sisters Lois Foster of Clinton, Oklahoma, Bobbie Goines and her husband Bob of Elk City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren DeWayne Torres and his wife Carol of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Teresa Boulton and her husband Aaron of McKinney, Texas, Brian Torres and his wife Dixie of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Austin Foust of Edmond, Oklahoma, three great grandchildren Katie Torres of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Derek Richey of Chico, Texas and Brady Torres of Cleveland, Oklahoma, three step grandchildren Brian Cline and his wife Candace of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jessica Huffman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Justin Everett of Dallas, Texas; one step great grandson Marcus Cline as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
