Lloyd T. Stephens better known as Steve was born December 6, 1923 in Pottsville, Arkansas to James Floyd and Naomi Ruth (Wilson) Stephens. Steve grew up in the Russellville area. The family later moved to Boston Pool when Steve was fourteen. In 1943 he graduated from Cleveland High School. Shortly after his graduation Steve joined the United States Navy.

Upon his return Steve was united in marriage to Willa Jo Butler in Cleveland, Oklahoma on June 4, 1948. Steve gained employment with Gulf Oil and after their marriage they made their home in Hobbs, New Mexico. Steve and Jo remained in Hobbs until 1962. At that time he was transferred to Cut Off, Louisiana. They remained in Cut Off for a short time and moved to Houma, Louisiana where they remained for over 20 years. At that time in 1982 Steve was transferred to Laurel, Mississippi. In 1994 Steve retired from Gulf Oil after thirty six years of employment. Steve worked his way from a rough neck to his final position of Senior Offshore Superintendent of the Gulf of Mexico. During his tenure with Gulf Oil Steve also survived three helicopter crashes while traveling to offshore platforms.

In 1994 Steve and Jo returned to Cleveland where they always considered home. Steve loved to hunt, fish and to work in his shop or garden. He was also a faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church in Cleveland. One of the many traits that Steve possessed was it was always right as long as it was his way.

Steve went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday August 10, 2004 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years 8 months and 4 days. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and an infant daughter Sandra Beth Stephens.

Survived by his loving wife of 56 years Willa Jo of the home; one son and his wife, David R. and Nan Stephens of Lisbon, Louisiana; brother, Raymond V. Stephens of Weatherford, Texas; one grandson Russell Wayne Stephens of Alexandria, Louisiana as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 13, 2004 at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of the First Assembly of God with Rev. Dan Edens officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
