Lloyd B Garroutte, 91, life long resident of Prue, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Claremore Veterans Center. Lloyd was born December 10, 1918 he was the son of Anderson and Etta (Welch) Garroutte. Lloyd grew up in Northeaster Oklahoma in the Gideon area attending the Shiloh School. At the age of 15, Lloyd moved to Prue, Oklahoma to work milking cattle for his brother in law. After several years working on the farm Lloyd gained employment with Baird Manufacturing in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lloyd was united in marriage to Marie Yarbrough on May 4, 1940 in Hominy, Oklahoma. The couple established their initial home in Tulsa before Lloyd was called to serve his country during World War II. On May 15, 1944 Lloyd entered into the United States Navy. During the time he was active duty he obtained the following citations and decorations: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with Four Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. On January 27, 1946, Lloyd was honorably discharged and returned with his wife Marie to Old Prue. Upon his return Lloyd was reemployed by the Baird Manufacturing Company where he continued to work until his retirement in 1982. Upon the completion of Lake Keystone, Lloyd and Marie moved to his current home where he has continued to reside. Mr. Garroutte loved to work in his garden and raise vegetables for all of his friends and family to enjoy. He also loved to invite his family and grandchildren over for homemade ice cream for them to enjoy. Lloyd was a former school board member from 1964 till 1977 and former active Prue Lions Club member. He was also a member of the Prue Baptist Church for many years. One thing about Lloyd was that he had a wonderful sense of humor as well as having a nick name for everyone he met. Survivors are his two sons Kenneth and his wife Linda Garroutte of Prue, Oklahoma, Dennis and his wife Mary Garroutte of Prue, Oklahoma, one brother Lewis Garroutte of Watsonville, California, one sister Sue VandenBurgt of Palm Desert, California, five grandchildren Luona Barnes of Prue, Oklahoma, Kerri Floyd and her husband Jeff of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Keith Garroutte of Prue, Oklahoma, Kendra Garroutte of Houston, Texas, Kayla Barnard and her husband Tyler of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, eight great grandchildren; Lori and her husband Steven, Kara and her husband Jesse, Michael, Nick, Brianna, Savanah, Hannah and Andrea; one great great grandson Matthew as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Marie Garroutte, one son Randall Garroutte, seven sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Prue First Baptist Church with Rev. Garry McDevitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery next to his wife Marie under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
