Linda Jane Toney

Linda Jane Toney, known to her childhood friends and family as Janey, passed from this life on March 11th 2023 at the age of 72 in Oklahoma city, Oklahoma.

Janey was born on October 6, 1950, in Muskogee, Oklahoma; the daughter of Ralph Jefferson Cross and Iva Irene (Hill) Cross-Blansett.

Her parents moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma and Janey attended school in Dilworth and Braman, Oklahoma before moving to Muskogee where she met the love of her life, Richard.

Richard Bonnie Don Toney accepted a job in Oklahoma city and proposed to her over the phone and in a letter. He sent for her and they were married September 5, 1967.

Richard and Linda moved to Tulsa where he worked as a machinist and she worked as a server and later, a restaurant manager.

They adopted a son Richard Don, then 10 years later adopted Jesse Michael and ten years afterward adopted Dustin Dwayne.

In 1986 they purchased 20 acres of land in Osage Oklahoma and moved a one bedroom house onto the property. The house was very small and needed lots of repairs. Family lovingly teased them they had a "shell of a home."

The couple worked diligently together, and separately every spare moment on their new house. The reward was a great relationship, lots of new skills, and a wonderful home. They had painstakingly turned their little project into a 6 bedroom, 3 bath home that appraised for over $225,000.

They had transformed it from a shell of a house to a helluva home. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Iva, her step-Father, William, her husband Richard, her eldest son, Richard Don, and seven siblings: Charles Cross, Bessie Mae Toney, Wanda Nobblitt, Maxine Watkins, Mildred Kahn, Harry Cross, and Tommy Cross.

Survivors are her two sons Jesse Toney, Dustin Toney; six siblings Margarett Jones, Jeff Cross, Beverly Toney, Vernon Cross, Steve James, Ella Graham; four grandchildren Caleb Toney, Emily Toney, Taylor Toney, Zander Toney and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, March 17, 2023, at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Friends and family may visit an online guest book and memorial page for Janey at www.chapman-black.com
