Lessie Marie Pulliam

Lessie Marie (Redus) Pulliam was born to Frank and Mary Redus on May 9, 1907 along with a twin sister Essie, in Ponder, Missouri. She moved to Tulsa with her family as a teenager.

On April 18, 1927 she married Lee Pulliam in Bristow, Oklahoma. They moved to the Mannford area and lived there for over fifty years. Lee passed away on October 12, 1979 and Lessie remained in Mannford until 1980 when she moved to Coffeyville, Kansas to be near her daughter.

Lessie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mannford. While making their home in Mannford, Lessie enjoyed gardening, canning and raising her laying hens to sell eggs. She also enjoyed sewing and watching soap operas.

She passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2005 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center at the age of ninety-seven years, eleven months and twenty-two days. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and five sisters.

Lessie is survived by her daughter, Betty Starnes of Coffeyville, Kansas; five grandchildren, Richard and Glenda Johnson of Wann, Oklahoma, SFC Cathy Johnson of Iraq, Donna and Rod Madron, Rocky and Trisha Starnes, Roger and Tonya Starnes, all of Coffeyville, Kansas; ten great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at the Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel in Mannford with Pastor Ira Sonny Moses officiating. Burial will at the Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
