Lee Roy (Doc) Adams

Lee Roy ìDocî Adams, lifelong Osage County resident, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Maplewood Care Center in Tulsa at the age of ninety. Doc was born October 15, 1922 near Boston Pool in rural Osage County near the Arkansas River. He was the son of John and Mattie (Jones) Adams. He was raised and attended school in the Boston Pool and District 48 schools, completing his education at Boston Pool School. As his parents where farmers, Doc continued to farm the river bottom for the next forty-years near Boston Pool until 1972 when the river flooded their farm. At that time Lee Roy sold the family farm and purchased a place in Hominy on West Main Street. Over the next few years, Doc was employed by the City of Hominy in various capacities including working for Woody Roles at the Park collecting money for the State of Oklahoma and as maintenance man at the park. Additionally, Doc worked at the Hominy Land fill for a few years before it was closed in 1979. He then began a career at the age of fifty-seven in the oilfields of northeastern Oklahoma; accepting a position with Jim Davis pulling rods and tubing. He later worked for Jack Lemmons as a roustabout for a short time. Doc really enjoyed both watching and playing baseball as a young man. He also enjoyed the ranching and cattle business; always spending time around horses and cows. He often said that his true profession in life was that of a musician. He played both the guitar and harmonica often both at the same time He also enjoyed singing and playing at the dances throughout the area. He could often be found simply enjoying the company of other people laughing and talking at the Wal-Mart. Doc was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mattie Adams; four brothers, Alvie, Bailey, Andy and Murphy Adams; and three sisters, Ida Mae Thompson, Juanita Lemmons, and Evie Adams. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Jack Wesley Lemmons, Jerry Lemmons, Lois Dobbins, Carl Dean Lemmons of Pershing, Oklahoma, Brenda Bridges, Doyle Thompson, and Charles Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Edens officiating.
