Services for Larry Stephens will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Larry’s son Todd Doss will be officiating. Friends may share a memory on Larry’s memorial website at www.chapman-black.com.
Larry was born October 24, 1943, in Dodge City, Kansas. He is the son of Royce Edward and Betty Eloise (Jones) Stephens. As a young child Larry moved with his mother to Cushing, Oklahoma following the death of his father in World War II. Larry received his education in Enid as well as Cushing later graduating from Cushing High School in 1961. Following high school Larry attended college at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Larry later graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Geology. Following graduation, Larry moved to Duncan, Oklahoma and then later moved to Edmond, Oklahoma. Several years later Larry moved to Oklahoma City. During the time in Oklahoma City, Larry was united in marriage to Patricia Marie on May 25, 1982. The two remained in Oklahoma City until 1989. At that time Larry and Pat moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2000, Larry and Pat moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma where they have continued to reside.
Larry has worked as a geologist for numerous companies including Halliburton, Cities Services Oil and Gas, Tipco, Chesapeake as well as a private consultant with Stephens Consulting. Larry was currently working for the Osage Nation as a Field Inspector for the past seven years.
Larry enjoyed life to the fullest and especially loved being outdoors. Deer hunting and fishing were some of his favorite things to do. Larry has spent many days and nights with family and friends at the deer camp enjoying the comradery. Larry was very proud of his Boone and Crockett buck that he harvested in 2002. Larry was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed grilling for his friends and family. Larry and Pat always loved taking trips and especially trips snow skiing with family in Colorado. The most recent memorable trip was a cruise with the family and grandkids.
Larry had the opportunity to take what he called was the trip of a lifetime in 2014. He and Pat along with Stefanie and John traveled to Italy and visited his father’s gravesite at the Florence American Cemetery. It was a very emotional and moving time that he was able to attended the site of his father he never knew. Larry had other things he enjoyed doing. He did intricate bead working and made buckskin clothing as well. When Larry did something you could guarantee that it was at 110%. Larry was an avid OSU Cowboy fan and loved to sit down and read Louis Lamoure stories.
Larry Michael Stephens passed away Tuesday night, July 26, 2016, at Hillcrest Medical Center at the age of 72 years, nine months and two days.
Survivors are his loving wife Pat of the home, five children Todd Doss and his wife Joanne of Orlando, Florida, Shawn Sloan of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Stefanie Bradford and her husband John of Edmond, Oklahoma, Derek Stephens and his wife Shelly of Mead, Colorado, Corey Sloan of Marco Island, Florida; two siblings Meleaia DeRoin of Hominy, Oklahoma, Tonda Lavanovich and her husband Jack of Bethany, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren Ed, Nicholas, Jackson, Jacob, Rilee, Tanner, Ravyn, Hunter, Mallory, Alysse, Alex and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by mother Betty Mullins, father Royce Stephens and step father Charlie Mullins.
