Kenneth Dale Bloomfield

Kenneth Dale Bloomfield was born to Archie Cornelius and Lula Wann Bloomfield in their home at Gueda Springs Kansas on August 30, 1930. Kenneth grew up in a small rural community and hung out in the small country store and pool hall that his parents owned. Kenny attended Gueda Springs High School where he was a member of the gun club, basketball team and played the drums in band. After high school graduation, Kenny joined the Air Force in 1949. For the next four years he served as a senior flight and ground aircraft mechanic with the F84 Thunderjets and on B29 refueling jets. The majority of his service was spent in Japan, Turner Air Force Base in Georgia, and on various aircraft carriers. The most notable experience during his service came when he was assigned to the 31st Strategic Fighter Wing. The 31st was assigned to a historic operation called “Fox Peter One”. This fighter mission flew from the U.S. to Japan in the first ever non-stop mass movement of an entire fighter fleet refueling in the air. Because the magnitude of this accomplishment was so great, the 31st Fighter Escort Wing became the first unit ever to receive the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
Kenneth married Betty Lou Wentworth in Newkirk OK on November 6, 1953 while he was home on leave and immediately returned to Japan. When he returned home the following year, the couple moved to Turner Air Force Base where he received an Honorable Discharge in 1954. The couple then moved to Leavenworth KS where Kenny worked as an aircraft mechanic in Kansas City MO. While living in Leavenworth KS, the couple’s first daughter, Deborah was born. The family then moved to Tulsa where Kenny was employed as an aircraft mechanic in Tulsa. In 1957 Kenny went to work for Sun Ray Oil Co. That same year, a second daughter Karie was born. While working at Sun Ray Oil, Kenny learned how to weld and later became a pipeliner working out of Union 798 in Tulsa. During his time as a pipeliner he became known as Bloomy to his friends, and that nick name stuck with him throughout his 60 year union membership. Kenneth remained a pipeline welder until his retirement in 1991. Upon retirement, Kenneth and Betty bought a travel trailer and spent their summers camping in Colorado and fishing for crappie and camping in Hugo. Kenny also loved to attend his grandchildren’s events, Cleveland sporting events and OSU basketball games.
Kenneth loved life. In his earlier days in Cleveland when he wasn’t out on a pipeline job, his hangout was Bayouths Department Store where he met with a group of friends who discussed current events and solved all the world’s problems. Nearly every day of his life, Kenny got out of bed, read the newspaper, walked a mile, and cheerfully looked forward to whatever might happen that particular day. You might find him welding on the tall flag pole on the edge of town, picking tomatoes with Dale or watching a little league baseball game. He loved his daily phone calls with Denny, visiting with friends at the Hickory House and just driving around town in his old red pickup looking at what was going on.
During the latter years of his life, Kenneth remained young at heart and continued to enjoy life. He enjoyed helping with Meals on Wheels, civic events and participating in Church related activities with the Church of Christ. Keystone Golf Course became his daily hangout and he looked forward to playing golf and keeping company with Darren and the regulars in the club house. Kenneth never met a stranger and was always interested in what was happening in the world and in the lives of other people. Kenneth was a devoted husband of 67 years, father, grandfather, and friend. He was fun loving, caring, and dependable. He had a mental toughness that allowed him to overcome several serious illnesses while remaining joyful. Kenneth was a special man who will be missed by all who knew him
Kenneth is survived by his wife Betty, his daughters Debbie Duke and husband Ron (deceased), Karie Kellert and husband Paul. Grandchildren include, Chelsea Duke, Rachel Williams and husband Tyler, Keylee Tesar and husband Sean, Murphy Braden II and wife Alaina. Great grandchildren Antwan Colbert and wife Melissa, Roman Williams, and Waylan and Fynlie Tesar. Great Great grandchildren James and GiGi Colbert.
After 91 joyful years here on earth, Kenneth is now resting in peace with his mother, father and sister Opal.
We began missing you the moment you left us. You are loved beyond measure.
