Katherine Butler Green

Katherine Elizabeth Butler Green was born July 22, 1924 in Keystone, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of V. C, ìRazî Columbus and Oza Florence Butler. Katie was raised and attended school in Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Katie was married at the age of sixteen to Jean Griffin. After their marriage, the couple moved to Tulsa. Katie resided in Cleveland while her husband was serving in World War II. Upon his return from military service, the couple moved to Tulsa where they had their three children, Russell, Tim and Debby. After the children were grown the couple divorced and Katie continued to live in Tulsa. She accepted employment as an administrative assistant at the Petroleum Club where she worked for several years.

Several years ago, Katie moved to Skiatook to be near her sister, Charlene. She then returned home to Cleveland in 1998 when her health began to fail. Katie loved selling and collecting antiques. She was a phenomenal bridge player and especially enjoyed traveling. Katie inherited a love for cooking from her mother and her specialty was fresh coconut cake. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Katie has been a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Cleveland.

Katie passed away on Monday, August 27, 2001 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of seventy-seven years, one month and five days. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Logan and Bill; and two sisters, Demoia and Blanche; and a son, Tim Griffin.

Survived by son, Russell and Daphne Griffin, Houston, Texas; daughter, Debby Griffin, Austin, Texas; daughter-in-law, Regina Griffin, Tulsa, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Eric Cole, Austin, Texas; Dawn Griffin, Houston, Texas; Charlie Cole, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Wesley Fawcett, Painesville, Ohio; Mark Griffin, Houston, Texas; five great-grandchildren, four sisters, Cammie Bishop, Prue, Oklahoma; Maxine Griffin, Cleveland, Oklahoma; Willa Jo Stephens, Cleveland, Oklahoma; Charlene Curtis, Skiatook, Oklahoma; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 28, 2001 at the First Christian Church in Cleveland. Burial was at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
