June Rose Brown

June Rose Brown went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, January 6, 2017, at the age of eighty-nine years, six months and eight days.
June was born on June 29, 1927, in Lane, Atoka County, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of William Reed and Naomi Elizabeth (Flowers) Birdsong. As a young girl, June was raised and attended school at Atoka Public Schools. She was very involved in athletics and excelled in basketball.
Following high school, June was united in marriage to Dewey Brown in January of 1944. To that union, there are three children, Delona, Don, and Darrell. Shortly after their marriage, the couple relocated to Ralston, Oklahoma where June took care of all the needs of her family as a homemaker.
Later June continued her education at Bartlesville Business College and accepted a position with the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa. She retired as the purchasing agent for Spartan in 1993.
June enjoyed watching the National Basketball Association and College Football. One of the highlights of her later years was attending a New Orleans Hornet game in Oklahoma City before they became the Oklahoma Thunder and being shown on the Megatron while at the game. She mostly enjoyed traveling and supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their sporting activities. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family. June was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cleveland as she resided in the Cleveland Baptist Village for several years. June also enjoyed cooking for her family; her favorite meal to prepare for them was beans and cornbread, banana bread and her famous cranberry salad. She was described by her family as a loving, caring and passionate mother and grandmother who was extremely generous and thoughtful; always placing the needs of her family above her own.
June is survived by two sons and their wives, Don and Terri Brown of Hominy, Oklahoma, Darrell and Becky Brown of Hominy; daughter and her husband, Delona and John Elsberry of Moore, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Derek Elsberry, Junae and Jackie Stafford, Dustin Elsberry and his fiancée, Meri, Lori Brown and her friend, Ron, Darrah and Luke Frazier, Drew and Somer Brown, Danya and Joe Kokojan and Davis Brown; eleven great-grandchildren, Sheridan, Brayden, Kara, Liam, Baylee, Loghan, Tinsley, Briley, Delaney, Dylan and Finn; and a brother, Dwight Birdsong of Lane, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Reed and Naomi Elizabeth Birdsong; a grandson, Jason Brown; two sisters, Melvia and Alene; and three brothers, Dewey, Ancil and Marlan.
