John "Tom" Points

JOHN THOMAS POINTS
John Thomas “Tom” Points, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many passed from this world to join his Lord and Savior on August 25, 2018. Tom was born on January 4, 1932 to Lucille and Arthur Points in Ashland, KY. He was the eldest of four children; Carolyn, Nancy and Steve. Upon graduating from Ashland High School in 1950, Tom traveled from eastern Kentucky to Stillwater, OK to attend Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) and pursue his interests in agriculture and veterinary science. Tom graduated from Oklahoma A&M with a degree in agricultural science and as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army ROTC program. Tom completed his service commitment to the Army as a 1st Lieutenant.

Tom had three great passions in life. He loved horses and the racing heritage of Kentucky. He loved Oklahoma State and his beloved Cowboys. And, more than anything, he loved Mary Duff Drummond of Hominy, OK. Tom married his lifelong love, Mary, on July 21, 1954 in the home of Grace and Frederick Drummond of Hominy, OK. The temperature the day of the service was a record 114 degrees. Tom and Mary were blessed with four children; John Drummond, Elizabeth Grace, Frederick Arthur and Mary Duff.

Tom was an area distribution manager for Cargill, Inc. much of his working career. He also ranched in Osage County, OK and Chase County, KS, partnered in a Liberal, KS feed lot and enjoyed raising and racing quarter horses. Tom and Mary loved Oklahoma State sporting events. They faithfully and enthusiastically attended football and basketball games together for forty years, where they enjoyed many weekends with their family and lifetime college friends. Tom’s love of horse racing frequently took them on trips to Ruidoso, Hot Springs and even back to the holy land of Kentucky, where Tom would enthusiastically tour the stables and paddocks, talking to trainers and admiring the horses therein. Tom served proudly on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission for many years.

Tom is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, and his sisters, Carolyn and Nancy. He is survived by his brother Steve, and Tom’s four children; Mary Duff, Fred (and wife, Martha), Beth Hightower (and husband, Bill), John (and wife, Jennifer) and seven grandchildren; Lauren Katherine Points, Mary Grace Points, John Robert (“J. R.”) Hightower, William Thomas (“Tom”) Hightower, Emily Grace Points, William Andrew (“Andy”) Points and Captain Thomas Alexander (“Alex”) Points (and wife, Angellia).

A memorial service of celebration with be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 31st, at the First Christian Church; 100 South Division, Cleveland, Oklahoma. The family requests that any donations in Tom’s memory be made to the OSU College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements were entrusted to Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Friends may share a memory with the family online www.chapman-black.com.
