Graveside services for J.J. Cunningham, Jr. will be held 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the Sinnett Cemetery with Rev. Scott Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Sinnett Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. John James Cunningham, Jr. was born on December 6, 1941 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He was the son of John James, Sr. and Eva LaVon (Brown) Cunningham-Mayfield. As a young child J.J. grew up in the Bear Creek area of Pawnee County. J.J. attended school in Keystone as well as Dixie before transferring to Cleveland where he later graduated. Soon after graduation J.J. attended Oklahoma A & M College in Stillwater where he studied electrical engineering. Soon after, J.J. accepted employment at the Hissom Memorial Center in Sand Springs. J.J. continued working there until his retirement in 1982. J.J. enjoyed taking photos of his niece & nephews as well as wild life and flowers. He loved to feed the deer as was a very avid bird watcher. Some of the places J.J. enjoyed to visit was California and Arizona. He would often reminisce about the times traveling in that area and visiting the Redwood Forest. J.J. passed from this life on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the age of 72 years. Survivors are his loving mother Eva Cunningham-Mayfield of the home, sister Joan Powell and her husband Terry of Claremore, Oklahoma, sister in law Gladys Cunningham of Cleveland, Oklahoma; nephews Clifford Shelby Cunningham, Jr. of Cleveland, Oklahoma, John Todd Cunningham of Tulsa, Oklahoma, niece Terri Shawn Powell of Tulsa, Oklahoma and a host of other relatives and friends that will mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by father John James Cunningham, Sr.; one brother Clifford S. Cunningham, Sr. and a niece Sherri Dawn Powell.
