John Cross

John Curtis Cross, of Hominy was born September 20, 1945 in Hominy, Oklahoma to Curtis and Virginia Ruth (Stubblefield) Cross. John grew up and attended school in Hominy where he graduated from Hominy High School in 1963. Soon after his graduation John enrolled in college at Tonkawa.

On March 30, 1968 John was united in marriage to Phyllis Walker in Hominy, Oklahoma. They made there initial home in Hominy and John accepted employment with Munsingwear. In the early 1970ís John accepted employment with Safeway in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After several years working in Tulsa John was transferred to Cleveland. John later began working for Carters Food Stores in Vinita. While John was employed for both Safeway and Carters Food Stores he was the Produce Manager.

In Johnís younger days he loved to water skiing and going out on the boat at the lake. He was an avid sports fan and University of Oklahoma football fan. John was also a member of the Church of Christ.

John passed away Friday, February 3, 2006 in Hominy, Oklahoma at the age of 60 years 4 months and 13 days. He was preceded in death by his father Curtis Cross in July of 1996.

Survived by his loving mother, Virginia Cross of Hominy, Oklahoma; two sons, Kelly Cross and his wife Kelle of Rose Hill, Kansas; Shane Cross of Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Peggy Williams and her husband L.P. of Vinita, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Katie Cross of Fort Worth, Texas as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Private memorial services were held under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the St. John Hospice at 4720 S. Harvard Ave., Ste. 202, Tulsa, OK 74135; (918) 747-7901.
