Jewell A Didomenico

Jewell A. DiDomenico, also known as Julie, was born January 5, 1946 in Havre de Grace, Maryland. She was the daughter of Albert and Jewell (Thornhill) DiDomenico. Julie was raised in Havre de Grace and attended her early education at Mount Aviat Academy, a private Catholic school, and then later attended Havre De Grace High School, graduating with the class of 1964. While attending high school and then after graduation, Jewell worked at her familyís restaurant, The Bayou Restaurant; a local favorite in "The City by the Bay" for many years. Jewell worked in numerous capacities in the restaurant and served as the bartender for several years. In the later part of 1993, Jewell met Jerry Gallatin, who was in the area working on a road construction project. Jerry and Julie developed a close friendship and were married on March 15, 1993 in Mannford, Oklahoma. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to California on a highway construction project. After a short time, Julie asked Jerry about also becoming a heavy equipment operator. Following an apprenticeship training program, Julie became a member of the Operating Engineers, Local 234 and worked many construction projects through the Union offices in Iowa and Missouri. She initially began operating a compacting tractor and then progressed to off-road trucks and dozer work. Jerry and Julie worked for nearly ten years together, working on jobs in the summer months and then returning to Mannford in the winter. Julie was described by her family and friends as a flamboyant and feisty lady that could accomplish anything she set her mind too. She was energetic and loved traveling with her husband, Jerry. They often traveled together during the winter months to Florida or South Texas. She inherited her love for cooking from her family during her years in the restaurant business and loved preparing Italian dishes. She was famous for her fried chicken, rice and gravy. She was a loving wife that prepared Jerry breakfast in bed every morning, even on work days. Additional hobbies included shopping, always looking for a bargain, and fishing. Julie passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa at the age of sixty-five. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert and Jewell DiDomenico. She is survived by her husband, Jerry W. Gallatin of Mannford, Oklahoma; daughter, Jamie Lee Beaver of Temple, Texas; son, James Wallace of Indianapolis, Indiana and a step-daughter, Lindsey Gallatin of Hominy, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Brandi Lee Beaver and Joshua Daniel Beaver; two sisters, Amanda McFadden and her husband Frank of Havre De Grace, Maryland and Carmella DiDomenico and her fiancee Don Lijana of Oviedo, Florida; and an aunt, Carmela DiDomenico of Baltimore, Maryland. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Frank McFadden officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland.
