Funeral services for Jerry Lee McVicker will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Pastor David Logsdon officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Jerry passed from this life on Thursday, March 13, 2014, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 77 years, ten months and fourteen days. Jerry was born on April 30, 1936, in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Ralph and Lillie Mae (Lee) McVicker. Jerry grew up and attended school in Sand Springs, Oklahoma later graduating from Charles Page High School. After high school Jerry worked for Crane Carrier for a short time before joining the United States Navy. During his tenure in the Navy, Jerry was stationed aboard the USS Lake Champlain as well as the USS Albemarle. Jerry was later honorably discharged on January 9, 1959. Jerry returned to Sand Springs and soon gained employment with Kerr Glass. He later accepted employment with Flint Steel as well as several other small shops in West Tulsa. During that time is when Jerry learned the trade of welding. He later moved to Enid, Oklahoma, working beside his brother Leland. The two operated a local service station for several years. Jerry also worked at Vance Air Force Base for a short time as a fire fighter. Jerry returned to work as a welder and worked throughout the United States on pipelines as well as a pipefitter at refineries. On December 19, 1986, in Miami, Oklahoma, Jerry was united in marriage to Clara B. Pollard. Jerry and Clara established their initial home in Enid, Oklahoma where they remained until 1995. In 1995, Jerry moved to Cleveland where he has continued to reside. Jerry had the opportunity to travel with his work but his most memorable place to work was as the Sakhalin Islands in Russia. Jerry enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to garden, fish and especially enjoyed the times Clara would join him deer hunting. Some favorite times on vacations were spent in Colorado as well as Louisiana and Texas. Jerry was a very caring person and was always willing to tell you how he felt. Jerry was also known for doing things his way. Survivors are his loving wife Clara of the home, three children Debbie Lynn Smelser of Mannford, Oklahoma, Terry McVicker of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Karen Burt and her husband Chuck of Mannford, Oklahoma; four step children Dee Ann Osman of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Fonda Manis of Vinita, Oklahoma, Donald Osman and his wife Donna of Vinita, Oklahoma, Dana Smith of Tennessee; one brother Eldon McVicker and his wife Joyce of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; sister in law Ruth McVicker of Enid, Oklahoma; six grandchildren Ashley Taylor, Jessica Miller, Cassie Evans, Jennifer Gott, Katie Rogers, Lindsey Hunter; six great grandchildren as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Lillie McVicker; two children Lisa Ann Rogers, Jerry Dan Osman; step daughter Berdetta Marie Osman; two brothers Troy McVicker, Leland McVicker as well as one sister Lola Goodhue.
