Jerry Bernard Caughlin, of Cleveland, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 75 years, two months and five days.

Jerry was born September 12, 1940, in Blackburn, Oklahoma. Jerry was the son of Joseph Bernard and Alma Naomi (Royster) Caughlin. Jerry was raised and received his education in Blackburn. He graduated from Blackburn High School with the class of 1958. Jerry later joined the United States Air Force on December 1, 1958. Following the completion of his basic training class Jerry was stationed at Bunker Hill Air Force Base. He was united in marriage to Sharon Kay (Schiewe) on December 22, 1961 in Skedee, Oklahoma. The two established their initial home in Peru, Indiana until he was honorably discharged on October 11, 1962.

Jerry and Sharon later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and Jerry started barber school. After graduation Jerry worked at a couple of local establishments before being offered a position at Carol’s Hairstyling. Jerry later became a partner and was on the forefront of starting a trend of hairstyling for men. Jerry remained a partner until the early 1990’s when he sold his portion of the business. Even though Jerry was no longer an owner he continued working in the salon industry and was currently at Solution’s for the past eight years.

Jerry enjoyed the weekends when he took his family to the lake. Family time was very important to Jerry, especially the times when his children and grandchildren were there. Riding motorcycles, snow skiing, online Texas Holdem’ and watching bull riding were also favorite pastimes of Jerry’s. However, NASCAR was his most favorite thing to watch. Jerry also enjoyed sitting down and reading. He was often brought a present by his clients which was a book for him to read. His favorite authors were Louis L’Amour and John Grisham. Jerry had also been an active part of the Peninsula Fire Department and a member of the First Christian Church since 1974. Jerry was instrumental in helping build the Cleveland Christian Academy at FCC in 1979.

Survivors are his wife Sharon of the home, two children Nicole Baker and her husband Dustin of Stroud, Oklahoma; Joel Caughlin and his wife Tina of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two brothers Danny Caughlin and his wife Josiepha of Fredricksburg, Texas, Mike Caughlin and his wife Helen of Blackburn, Oklahoma; five grandchildren Teah Caughlin, Jacob Caughlin, Paige Baker, Brooklyn Baker, Austin Cummins; one great grandchildren Ryder and numerous other relatives and friends that will mourn his passing. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at the First Christian Church in Cleveland Oklahoma on Dec. 12 at 10:30 am. The body was cremated and will be interred in the Blackburn Cemetery in Blackburn, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
