Jay Edward Anglin passed from this life on May 21, 2020, at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the age of 81. He was born on October 10, 1938, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Jay was the son of John Newton and Emily Theola (Pock) Anglin. Jay was raised in Cleveland, where he attended school and graduated from Cleveland High School with the Class of 1956. Following high school, Jay moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, later deciding that was not the place to reside and returned to Oklahoma. In 1957, Jay attended Oklahoma State University, and during that time, he met Roma Lee, and the two were united in marriage on January 23,1959. Jay returned to Cleveland and worked in the oil field as a roustabout. He also worked for Curt Brown Drilling as a derrick hand. Jay later operated the DX Service Station for several years. In 1966, Jay joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and was assigned as a driver's license examiner. Several years later, in 1974, Jay was reassigned to Troop B retiring in 1988. Following his state retirement, Jay accepted a position with Mannford Police Department, which later expanded to code enforcement as well as the animal control officer. While working in Mannford, Jay was united in marriage to Norma Faye Stump on September 7, 1996. Jay and Faye moved to Cleveland, where they have continued to reside. Jay fully retired from the City of Mannford in 2004.
Jay enjoyed fishing and hunting. Especially elk hunting in Colorado. Jay has been a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and was inducted at the Hebron Lodge #215. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, also a High 12 Masonic Club Member and former president of the organization. Jay's favorite book was the Bible, and his philosophy was he wanted to be remembered as a hard-honest worker with a Christian attitude and a good parent. Jay was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cleveland and was baptized in 1950. He was a former teacher of unmarried young adults and Sunday School teacher for many years in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
Survivors include his wife Norma Faye of the home, children Jeana Poland of Barnsdall, Oklahoma, James Stump and his wife Amy of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Celesta Stump of Cleveland, Oklahoma; siblings Jimmy Anglin and his wife Linda of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Joe Anglin and his wife Cathy of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Judy Breedlove and her husband Stan of Cleveland, Janie Patterson of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and host of other relatives and friends that will mourn his passing. In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his son J.E. Anglin and granddaughter Ashlee Poland.
Services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma with Chaplain Sam Garner officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Woodland Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
