Jamie Karen Brooks

Jamie Karen Brooks, of Hominy, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of 61 years following an extended illness.
Jamie was born August 4, 1955 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Charles and Shirley Jean (Tyler) Wilson). As a young girl, Jamie traveled to many places, as her father worked the oil fields, never staying in one location for very long. In her teen years, Jamie lived in California. Jamie loved to dance, listen to music and ride on Harleys. Her mother often wondered where she and her brother got their rhythm from.
After finishing high school in California, she returned to Oklahoma and resided in various parts of Osage County eventually calling Hominy her final home. She was a resident of Hominy for over 53 years.
In 1993, she had her son, Jacob Kane Brooks. Jacob changed Jamie’s life forever and she became a Christian and led a life by example for her son. Jacob meant everything to Jamie and she would move heaven and earth for him.
In 2000, Jamie began working at Wild Country Meats. Working at Wild County Meats, gave Jamie another purpose in life and an extended family. Chis and Stacy hired Jamie and immediately she became a part of their family. As the staff at Wild County Meats grew so did Jamie’s extended family. There were many times her extended family would come over to Jamie’s house after work or she would bring a pot of beans to work and they would all break bread together. These were the best of times.
Throughout the years, Jamie was a second mama to many. Early on she acquired the name “Honey” to the children she watched over. She had a special bond with her younger cousins Sheldon Tyler and Candice Marlar. She also was an immaculate housekeeper.
Jamie was also known for speaking her mind and her kindness. If someone was in need, she would find a way to help them. If someone said something she didn’t agree with, she would be the first to tell them.
In the end of her battle with cancer, Jamie was surrounded by those that she loved. Many visitors dropped by and not for a few minutes, but for hours. Sharing stories about their past and their love for each other and for Jamie. If the amount and quality of people who surround you in your final days on earth are any type of measure of the life you’ve led, it is certain that Jamie led her life with open arms to those that she loved.
Survivors are son Jacob Brooks of Hominy, Oklahoma; mother Shirley Wilson, brother Jeff (Sandra) Wilson, and niece Brooke Wilson all of Antioch, California. Jamie leaves behind her best friends, Shelli Kennedy, Amanda Goode, Rosa Bozard and Nicole Mackey. These ladies were like sisters to Jamie and stood by her to the very end. She also leaves behind and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father.
