James Harvey West

James Harvey West passed from this life on January 24, 2022, at the age of 75, in Cleveland, Oklahoma.

James was born on November 27, 1946, in McAllen, Texas, the son of John Harvey and Nancy Idell (Lloyd) West. James grew up and attended school in Summerfield later graduating from LeFlore High School with the Class of 1965. Following high school James attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. James left college and joined the United States Navy on May 13, 1966. On December 19, 1966, James was united in marriage to Linda Arlene Bethell in Poteau, Oklahoma. James was initially stationed on the USS Peregrine, serving his time in Vietnam patrolling the rivers and was wounded in action, receiving the Purple Heart for his injuries. After his recovery, James was stationed upon the USS Bennington where he completed his duty. On December 18, 1969, E-4 James Harvey West was honorably discharged. Upon his discharge James returned to Oklahoma, gaining employment with the State of Oklahoma at the Ouachita Vocational Technical Center. James and Linda were later transferred to Dick Conner Correctional Facility in 1979 and established their home in Cleveland where they have continued to reside. James retired from Dick Conners in 1999 after 30 plus years of service.

Going fishing and spending time with his grandbabies was James' favorite things to do.

Survivors are his wife Linda of the home; three children John West of Cleveland, Oklahoma; Sarah West of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Brandi Mitchell of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren Joshua West and wife Lindsay, Justin West and wife Sydney, Eric West, Rachel West, Kayden Brady, Khloe Mitchell; great grandson Aris Finn West and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents James was preceded in death by his siblings Paulette West, Lloyd West, daughter in law Tammy Sue West and a grandson Kylar Brady.
