James Harvey, Jr.

James Harvey Jr., 77, known to his friends and family as Jim passed from this life on September 29, 2022, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.


James was born on February 6, 1945, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; he was the son of James Carrell and Irene (Collins) Harvey. Jim grew up in Oklahoma City graduating from Central High School in Oklahoma City. Jim attended Oklahoma University and was soon united in marriage to the love of his life Alma Lee Alexander on December 1, 1962, in Gainesville, Texas. Jim initially began working at Robertson Steel Company in Oklahoma City before accepting a position with Frontier Steel in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He later moved his family to Cleveland and started with Valmont Industries in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jim worked at Valmont for over 40 years when he retired in 2014.



Jim always enjoyed being outdoors. He loved fishing, working in his yard and baseball. Jim always cherished the times he went fishing with his friends and family. He worked tirelessly in his garden and always loved to share the fruits of his labor with his friends. He had such a passion for baseball; Jim taught and coached many kids in Cleveland the game of baseball for many years. Jim’s grandsons were his pride and joy. He always looked forward to gameday to watch them compete in their sports.



Survivors are his wife of nearly 60 years Alma of the home; three children James L. Harvey, Kimberly Myles and her husband Reese, Stephanie Deatherage and her husband Kyle, four siblings Ethel Mattingly, Janice Nitz and her husband Graeme, Rickey Harvey and his wife Therese, Ervin Harvey, five grandchildren Tyler Myles, Zachary Myles, Jordan Clark, Baylor Harvey, Banner Woods and a host of other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents James and Irene Harvey.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at the Western Heights Baptist Church with David Head officiating. Burial will be held in the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
