James Edward Willcox

James Edward Willcox, 74, passed from this life on July 1, 2020, following a motor vehicle accident near Prue, Oklahoma.

James was born on September 23, 1945, in Hominy, Oklahoma. He was the son of Pat Hagin and Susie Irene (Carter) Willcox. James grew up and attended school in Hominy. Following the completion of his education, James began working on the Thompson Ranch West of Hominy. On November 26, 1963, James was united in marriage to Linda Sue Hillsberry at the Nazarene Church in Hominy, Oklahoma. In 1969, James started with the Drummond Ranch. James was instrumental in the Hominy Ranchers Rural Fire Department's startup with J.D. Savage and John Hinchey. He served as Chief for many years before his retirement. After 47 years, at the Drummond Ranch, James retired. Following his retirement, James was still active; he was later elected as Mayor of Osage and was currently holding that position.

James loved being outside. Being with his family was also very important to him. James always enjoyed visiting with people and being around his family. He was an avid pig hunter as well as a dog trainer. He traveled to several places, entering his dogs into the Baying contest. Watching his kids as they were growing up and his grandchildren participating in events was always a highlight of his day. James had an extensive belt buckle collection and loved taking his collection to shows. Rodeoing was a significant part of his life as well. When he was younger, he would often participate at the Cavalcade and Ben Johnson Rodeo in the wild horse race or bareback riding. James was one that would visit with anyone and never met a stranger when he was out.

Survivors are his three children, Jamessa Terrell of Hominy, Oklahoma; Kim Willcox of Hominy, Oklahoma; James Hagin Willcox and his wife Stephanie of Hominy, Oklahoma; brother Frank Willcox and wife Linda of Cleveland, Oklahoma, eight grandchildren Mandy, Matt, Jake, Brad, Casey, Destiny, Katie Jo, Rylee, Leah; thirteen great grandchildren Bryce, Kallie, Blake, Patrick, Hagin, Raegin, Paisley, Lawson, Matti, Emme, Laney, Tripp, Raiden, extended grandchildren Jaden, Drake, Kanen and Braylee as well as numerous other relatives and friends. In addition to his grandparents and
parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Linda and many other aunts and uncles.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at the Prue First Baptist Church with Pastors Travis Barbee and Garry McDevitt officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, July 6, from 10 am till 7 pm. Burial will follow in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery at Hominy, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
