James Bruce Govaerts

James Bruce Govaerts passed from this life on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of 65 years, four months and twelve days. James was born on September 14, 1947, in Sargent, Nebraska. He was the son of Donald ìJackî Duane and Betty Ruth (Moore) Govaerts. As a young boy James was raised and received his education in Lincoln, Nebraska and later graduated from Northeast High School. Following graduation James joined the United States Navy on September 6, 1966. He was initially stationed at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Texas. In 1968, James was united in marriage to Lana Lynn Gordon in Corpus Christi. Following the completion of his duties Air Control Man Third Class James Govaerts was honorably discharged on June 26, 1970. James and Lana remained in Corpus Christi and he gained employment as an air traffic controller. He was later transferred to Lincoln, Nebraska and completed his career at Kansas City in 1981. James later moved to Tulsa and worked at the Old Village Apartments for several years before gaining employment at the Bryce House in Tulsa, Oklahoma. James has been working there since 1990, where he has helped many people with their daily struggles with alcohol and drug addiction. James has been a long time supporter of Alcoholics Anonymous since the early 1980ís. He loved helping people in need and had a heart of gold to those who would allow him to help. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and playing pool in his spare time. His main goal in life was to help anyone in need and help them fight their addictions. Survivors are his two children Christopher B. Govaerts of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kerilynn Duis of Terlton, Oklahoma, brother Ken Govaerts and his wife Kathy Govaerts of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister Jan Taylor and her husband Mitch of San Pedro, California; Macey, Lana, Bryson, Drake, Raelynn, Kodee, Konner; great grandson Maddox James and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Jack Govaerts; mother Betty Govaerts, wife Lana Lynn Gordon Govaerts and a son Michael James Govaerts . Memorial services will be held with burial in the Woodland Cemetery following cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
