Glen Dale Earnest

Glen Dale Earnest was born April 25, 1922 in Prue, Oklahoma. He was the son of Charles and Ludie Gay Earnest. Glen was raised and received his education in Prue.

Upon completion of his education, Glen enlisted in the service of his country in the United States Coast Guard on May 23, 1941 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Glen served as a Water Tender Second Class during World War II, assigned to USS Burlington and later USS Moberly which was involved with the sinking of a German submarine in the vicinity of Block Island, Rhode Island. Glen was honorably discharged on June 29, 1946 in Alameda, California

Upon completion of his military service, Glen accepted employment working on the Harden farm near Salinas, California. He worked as a supervisor on the farm for nearly fifteen years. He was married to Wanda Williams at Salinas, California on February 10, 1951.

The couple later moved to Oklahoma and Glen began a career as a boilermaker working out of the Boilermakers Local 592. During the next several years, Glen worked all over the United States building power and utility stations and sub-stations, retiring in 1987.

Glen was affiliated with and attended the First Baptist Church in Prue. He was a longtime member of the Keystone Golf Club and played hundreds of rounds at the course. He established many friendships throughout the area especially at Keystone Golf Club.

Glen passed away on Friday, October 21, 2005 at the St. John Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of eighty-three years, five months and twenty-six days. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ben and Eddie Earnest; and a sister, Gracie Bigelow.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda of the home; three sisters, Opal Toothman of Prue, Oklahoma, Evelyn Porterfield of Prue, Oklahoma and Lela Hardee of Mountain View, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, October 24, 2005 at the Prairie View Cemetery in Prue with Rev. Garry McDevitt officiating. Burial will be at the Prairie View Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Earnest, Billy Toothman, Charles Toothman, Bobby Toothman, Brian Johnson and Darren Buttram.
