Gladys Dildine

Gladys Pauline Dildine, a life long resident of Hominy was born January 29, 1918 in Lambert, Montana to John Thomas and Myrtle Mae (Storm) Jordan. At the age of 12, Gladys moved to Hominy, Oklahoma with her family. She began attending Junior High in Hominy and later graduated from Hominy High School in 1936. On January 12, 1938, Gladys was united in marriage to Cecil Dwight Dildine in Cleveland, Oklahoma and to this union there are three children Geneva, Kenny and Randy. They established their initial home in Hominy. In the early 1950ís Gladys and Cecil obtained the contract for rural mail delivery with the U.S. Post Office. They would carry the mail in the mornings allowing them to work on the farm in the afternoon. Gladys was always the home room mom and active with the PTA as her children were growing up. After the death of Cecil, Gladys continued to carry the mail for over 60 years until her retirement.

Gladys was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene. She was devoted to teaching Sunday school. Gladys taught Sunday school from the children all the way up to the Senior Adults Class. She was also active with the Mound Valley Demonstration Group. Christmas and Thanksgiving were special times around the house of Gladys Dildine; this was when all the family got together no exceptions. Gladys treasured playing board games. She more than ever loved to get her children and grandchildren together and make a day of playing games and cooking. Gladys also took the time to teach those who wanted to learn how to sew. In the early fall you could always count on Gladys getting her quilting frame out. It would remain out until spring tediously sewing every stitch with love. Gladys loved to go; it made her no difference where she was going just as long as the car was moving. She especially loved the Sunday afternoon drives, which had to include the cemetery. Gladys loved fishing with her family, along with her best friend, Polly. Some people have said that, ìGladys Dildine is one of the best cooks that I know.î

Gladys went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, April 28, 2006 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years 2 months and 29 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cecil on February 28, 1993, one sister Irene Lemmons and one infant grandson.
