Gary Randolph Cummings

Gary Randoph Cummings was born August 14, 1954 in Alburquerque, New Mexico. He was the son of Randy Cummings and Laurie Schroeder Cummings. Gary spent most of his childhood in the Cleveland area, where he attended school. While growing up, Gary attended the Terlton Baptist Church and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on February 14, 1962. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 1972 and was an active member of the Future Farmers of America and enjoyed spending time outdoors. After graduation from high school, Gary attended Oklahokma College in Oklahoma City where he studied electronics. Upon completion of his education, Gary began his own painting business which he operated for several years. He was married to Paula Benjamin on October 12, 1974 and they had two sons, Gary Dewayne and Michael Paul. In 1982 attended the Tulsa Fire Training Academy and graduated as a firefighter on December 3, 1982. He spent the next twenty years working for the Tulsa Fire Department; mostly as a driver for Stations 27 and 28 on East 31st Street and East 71st Street respectively. He loved his career and the close brotherhod of fellow Tulsa Firefighters. In 2002, he retired from fire fighting to pursue other interests. He spent time fishing, sailing, boating and camping. He was a master handyman and spent much of his time helping others with various projects. He was always there to lend a hand. He was a good son, good brother and a good father and his generous heart will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Randy and Lauri Cummings of Cleveland, Oklahoma; sister, Debbie and her husband, Barney Daigle of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two sons, Gary Dewayne Cummings and Michael Paul Cummings; niece and nephew, Jennifer and Benjamin Daigle of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; numerous other relatives and friends . Funeral services will be held Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Western Heights Baptist Church with Rev. David Head officiating. Last Alarm Honors will be rendered by the Tulsa Fire Department Honor Guard. Friends may share a memory with the family at the funeral home or online at www.chapman-black.com.
