Freida Mae Hughes, 85, passed from this life on March 26, 2020, at the Broken Arrow Nursing Home.

Freida was born on December 5, 1934, in Dixie, Oklahoma a rural community of Oklahoma. Freida was the daughter of Elzie Milton and Beulah Rose (Chambers) Findley. Freida grew up and and attended school in Dixie and later graduated from Cleveland high School. Freida later attended school at the University of Tulsa graduating with a Bachelors degree in Education. While in school Freida was introduced to Richard Francis Hughes on a blind date. The couple was united in marriage on January 19, 1957, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Following their marriage, Freida and Dick established their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma where they raised their two sons. Following graduation Freida taught for a short time before gaining employment with American Airlines later retiring in 1996.

Freida and Dick loved being active and running marathons, riding bikes and watching sports. Freida and Dick traveled to numerous places throughout the United States and Canada. Their favorite places to travel to were Alaska, Canada and especially Hawaii. Freida enjoyed going to Claremore to the Hamite House which was one of her favorite places to eat. Freida always participated in the Senior Olympics, yearly Easter plays at her longtime place of worship Arrow Heights Baptist Church. Freida was always concerned about others and her normal comment was: “be careful and be safe and don’t be alone.”

Survivors are her two children Mark Hughes and his wife Lisa of Flagstaff, Arizona, Bill Hughes and his wife Pam of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; three grandchildren Jerusha Leggett and her husband Brandon of Joplin, Missouri, Molly Hughes of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Carly Hughes of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one great-granddaughter Emma and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, siblings Lester Don Findley, Charles Lindbergh Findley and E.G. Findley.

Burial was held at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Friends and family may visit an online guest book and memorial page for Freida at www.chapman-black.com.
