Funeral services for Floyd Melvin Blackwell will be held 2:00 pm Friday, April 13, 2012, at the Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Willis Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Floyd was born on April 24, 1937, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Myrlan B. and Lucy Ann (Cates) Blackwell. During the time Floyd was growing up he was raised in the Keystone and Sand Springs area where he attended school. Following the completion of his education Floyd began working for Pasha Auto in Tulsa and then later worked at the Sand Springs Sand Plant. Floyd has also worked for Birmingham Steel before accepting the position with Kerr Glass. Floyd worked for Kerr Glass as the maintenance man from 1962 till the closure of the facility in 1993. Floyd still enjoyed working so he began working odd jobs in the Cleveland Area from mowing lawns to doing minor repairs for people in the community. Floyd enjoyed working and that was his hobby. He loved to help friends with their projects and loved to spend his time helping them and his family. Floyd also made ceramics for his family. One of the most memorable vacations he took with his family was when they visited five states in four days. Survivors are his wife Shirley of the home, four children Wendy Giabbai of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Teresa Montgomery and her husband Charlie of Wynona, Oklahoma, Dawnya Vineyard and her husband Jim of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Christina Robinson and her husband Mike of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; one sister Joyce Coon of Florida; ten grandchildren Nick, William, Tabitha, Tamerah, Devin, Amanda, Kathleen, Alaine, Branden, Kyle; seven great grandchildren Stephan, Kalimae, Dyllion, Craig, Jr., Riley, Journi, Leah and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Myrlan B. Blackwell, mother Lucy Ann Blackwell, two sisters Lahoma Phelps and Naomi Conkwright.
