Floyd Bonness Ausburn

Dr. Floyd B. Ausburn passed away on November 12, 2021. The son of B.D. and Alee Ausburn of Tulsa, Dr. Ausburn was born January 21, 1940, in Tulsa where he graduated from Will Rogers High School. Dr. Ausburn earned his Eagle Scout, served his country as a US Army veteran and completed his education with a PhD from University of Oklahoma. He then spent 14 years in Australia as a professor at Monash University in Melbourne. He returned to Oklahoma in 1990 and finished his career in the School of International Studies and the College of Education at Oklahoma State University. While there he developed a research program in educational applications of virtual reality technology that earned national recognition. Dr. Ausburn is survived by Dr. Lynna Ausburn, his soulmate and wife of nearly 60 years. Before leaving Australia, they spent more than 2 years aboard their 50-foot sailboat Sea Quest exploring the Australian Coral Sea and the Great Barrier Reef. The Ausburns were inseparable partners throughout a life of adventure and research, working in 19 different countries in the field of international economic and workforce development for World Bank, USAID, UNESCO, and the Australian Development Assistance Bureau. Among Dr. Ausburn’s favorite activities were photography and game fishing and boating on the Texas Gulf Coast, where he loved being skipper of his vessel. Dr. Floyd Ausburn will be laid to rest in Tulsa Memorial Park in a private service.
