Emma Dale Ellis

Emma Dale Ellis was born on June 28, 1903 near Hobart in Oklahoma Territory. She was he daughter of Charlie Albert and Ollie Ann (Speer) Teter. Emma graduated from Cushing High School in 1921 and then attended Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater.

She was married to Robert David Ellis on May 28, 1927 in Cushing. Mrs. Ellis taught school in Ralston and Cushing, also working in the Tulsa School System. Mr. Ellis preceded her in death on May 8, 1968.

After the death of her husband, Mrs. Ellis moved to Cleveland in 1970 and living in Tulsa approximately forty-years. During her lifetime, she held memberships in the Order of the Eastern Star, the Oklahoma Retired Teacher's Association, the Garden Club and the Pawnee County Extension Club. She was a member of the First Christian Church for many years and attended the First United Methodist in her later years. Mrs. Ellis also volunteered for many years at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home, before becoming a resident there.

Mrs. Ellis passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the Cleveland Area Hospital at the age of one hundred one years, eleven months and twenty-seven days. In addition to her husband, Robert David Ellis; she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Amos, Walter, Don A. and Allison M. Teter; a sister, Goldie Katherine Bunch; and a granddaughter, Debora A. Ellis.

She is survived by three sons, Charlie Nelson Ellis of Buffalo, Wyoming, Robert Dale Ellis of Des Arc, Missouri and John Allison Ellis of Enid, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. Orra Compton officiating. A private family committal service will follow at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
