Elsie May Collins

Born in Terlton, Oklahoma, Elsie May Gwin Collins spent most of her young life in the area, living on the family farm.

Always a diligent student, she excelled in her studies and graduated from high school in 1941, at the age of 17. As a young woman, she met and fell in love with Lloyd Earl Collins, whom she married on January 18, 1942, just after her 18th birthday. This marriage marked the beginning of a lifelong love affair, which enriched their lives and produced their beloved son, Larry.

She was a loving, devoted wife for the entire 63 years of her marriage to Lloyd. She stood by him during his time spent in Europe during World War II, through back surgery and the other trials life brings.

As a mother, she adored her only son, whom she doted on from his birth in 1947 to her death this week.

She was also a generous and loving grandmother to her two grandchildren, always fair, always kind.

She lived with her family in or near Cleveland, Oklahoma for over 50 years, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cleveland.

In 1997, she moved with her husband and sister, Martha Gwin, to the Houston, Texas area, to be near her son and daughter-in-law, Mary.

Throughout her 81 years, Elsie May Collins was a sweet, gentle woman who was lovingly devoted to the Lord and to those close to her. Her fried chicken and her warm smile will forever stay in our hearts.
