Elsie Irene Dunlap

Elsie Irene Dunlap was born December 13, 1911, in Catele, Oklahoma the daughter of James Walter and Ada Bell (Allen) Tharp. As a young girl Elsie grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she began her education. After the completion of her education, Elsie was united in marriage to Rufus James Dunlap at Yale, Oklahoma on April 15, 1925 where they made their initial. In 1932, Elsie and Rufus moved to the Jennings area where they raised their children. They continued to reside in Jennings until Mr. Dunlapís health began to fail and they moved to Cleveland in 1988. At that time Elsie moved into the Baptist Village where she continued to reside until April of 2007, when she became a resident of the Cimarron Point Nursing Center in Mannford.

Mrs. Dunlap enjoyed reading, sewing and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed the time that she spent with her family on the Illinois River and Flynt Creek. Elsie was a devoted Christian Lady and member of the First Baptist Church in Jennings. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. Elsie and Rufus always took their children to church to instill in them that Salvation is a very important part of life. Mrs. Dunlap enjoyed reading the book of Psalms and later in life was not able to see so she would often ask her family to read them to her.

Mrs. Dunlap passed away Wednesday evening December 5, 2007, in Mannford, Oklahoma at the age of 95 years 11 months and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rufus and one daughter Joan Muriel Lunsford in 1989.

Surviving are her three sons, Jim Dunlap and wife Doris of Jennings, Oklahoma; Robert Dunlap and wife Wray of Jennings, Oklahoma; Jack Dunlap and wife Doris of Vian, Oklahoma; one sister, Pearl Ward of California; 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will include Jimmie Dunlap, Robert Dunlap, Jerry Dunlap, Mike Dunlap, Gary Dunlap and Dennis Dunlap.

Funeral services will be held December 8, 2007 at 10:00 am in the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Compton officiating. Burial will follow in the Jennings Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
