Edward Gene Davis, 74, and wife Janie Marie Davis, 73, passed from this life on Monday, October 1, 2018, in Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Edward was born August 26, 1944, in Cleveland, Oklahoma. He was the son of Delbert and Alta Louise (Wagner) Davis. Eddie grew up and attended school in Cleveland, Oklahoma graduating with the Class of 1963. During his time in high school Eddie was very active in sports. He was nominated as all conference halfback in football and voted most popular student his Senior year. Eddie was united in marriage to the love of his life on May 22, 1965, in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Following their marriage, the couple established and maintained their home in Cleveland. Eddie gained employment with Amoco where he worked for over 18 years and was the division order administrator. Eddie later opened in the 1980’s Davis Auto Sales for several years.

Janie was born May 23, 1945, in Cleveland, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Albin and Marie Geneva (Conner) Monforte. Janie grew up and attended school in Cleveland, Oklahoma graduating fron Cleveland High School with the Class of 1963. Following her marriage to Eddie on May 22, 1965, in Cleveland, Oklahoma she gained employment at American Home Savings and Loan where she worked for many years until the closure of the facility. Janie also worked at P2S in the accounting department for well over 10 years before she retired.

Eddie and Janie also owned and operated a Smoke Shop in Hominy for several years as well. In the late 1980’s, the couple opened the Burger Barn on main street which the two also operated for several years.
The couple was nearly inseparable always playing golf together, traveling throughout the United States. They also took numerous trips to New Mexico and Colorado snow skiing. Trips to Florida and the Bahamas which Eddie would always manage to go fishing. The two bowled on a league as well as played tennis which Janie would typically win. On occasion she would allow Eddie to win to keep thing interesting. Janie and Eddie were avid Sooner Fans and loved watching sports. They loved to do anything that had to do with being outdoors but their love was playing golf every chance they could.

Survivors are their son Doug Davis of Cleveland, Oklahoma; Eddie is survived by a brother Robert Davis and his wife Carma of Katy, Texas and preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Helen Davis and Louise Cox. Janie is survived by her brothers Bill Monforte of Skiatook, Oklahoma, John Monforte of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Bob Monforte of Cleveland, Oklahoma and a sister Sue Dietz of Cleveland, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A gathering of friends and family will be 6:00 PM Friday at the Western Heights Baptist Church. Following the cremation they will be placed in the Dixie-Bear Creek Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
