Dr. Thomas D. Moore

Thomas Dickson Moore, age 89, died peacefully on September 26, 2019 from complications of pneumonia.

Tom was married to the love of his life, Dorothy Norman Moore, for 67 years until she preceded him in death on July 10,2018. Together they had 6 children, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Tom is survived by his children Mary Beth Moore, Chris Moore(Cheryl Lynn), Jennifer Reynolds(Bill), Tom E. Moore, and Sara Orthober(Jason), his grandchildren James Moore(Marie), Melissa Moore (their mother Kim Moore Parker), KelliAnne Pratt(Christain), Kennsington Moore, Nissi Grace Moore, Jack Orthober, Sam Orthober, his great grandson Cyrus Moore-Ezell, his brother-in-law Howard Norman(Patty), his brother in law J.D. Sharp, and his niece and nephew Shari Weber & Steve Sharp. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Dewey & Dorothy Moore, his sister Meredith Sharp, and his son Jonathan Moore.

Tom was a pretty intelligent guy. He graduated high school at the age of 16, finished college at Oklahoma State University in 3 years and went on to medical school at Oklahoma University. He completed his pediatric residency at Cornell Hospital in New York City and continued to have an illustrious career. He started as a pediatrician in the United States Air Force, stationed in Puerto Rico for 3 years, and then in California for 1 year. He later went back to Oklahoma, where he and his wife were born and raised, to open his own pediatric practice in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Later, he moved to Columbus, OH to work for Ross Laboratories where he collaborated with other physicians on several projects, most notably one to help develop Similac Baby Formula. He was then recruited by Southwest Medical School to Dallas, TX where he was responsible for opening up clinics close to schools for children in low income areas so their mothers would not have to miss work to get their children the medical attention they needed. This model was so successful it was later adopted by other areas of the country. He was then named the associate dean of SouthWest Medical School. In 1982 he was offered the position of Director of Excellence at Humana in Louisville, KY and was later promoted to Vice President of Medical Affairs. He stayed at Humana until he retired.

Tom loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, a good hamburger and a cold bottle of beer, swimming, and a good laugh. He had an infectious laugh. We will all really miss that laugh…..
