Dorothy May Casey

Dorothy May Chandley Casey. 95, retired motel owner and operator, was born May 21, 1910 near Greenville, Tennessee to Anna Ida Fournier Chandley and Hiram Canatzer Chandley. Her family moved to Hominy, Oklahoma when she was six months old, and she attended school there for ten years. The family then moved to the oil field community of Boston Pool. Mrs. Casey graduated from Cleveland High School in 1928.

She was united in marriage to Bert Casey of Cleveland on December 25, 1933. They eventually became the owner and operators of the Cleveland Ice Dock and the Casey Courts Motel. They were also members of the Cleveland First Baptist Church where Mrs. Casey was active in the Womenís Missionary Union group for over forty years, serving as president in 1961 and 1962. She also attended six of their state conferences held in Glorieta, New Mexico. She later moved her church membership to Western Heights Baptist Church.

Mrs. Casey was a true servant of God and a woman of great Christian Faith. Teaching, visiting, praying ---- all of the Lordís work was very important to her. As a young adult, she helped start a Baptist Church in the community of Boston Pool. Later, she worked serving her church as a Sunday School teacher and missions leader. After her husband Bert died in 1992, she moved to the Baptist Village in Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Casey was also an accomplished artist, painting many still life portraits and entering them in the Tulsa State Fair where they won numerous prizes. She also enjoyed traveling, taking many trips with Senior Citizen groups and writing poetry.

Mrs. Casey is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister, and her husband of fifty-eight years, Bert Casey. Surviving her are her daughter, Emajo Head, her grandson Reverend David Wayne Head, his wife, Dianne, and three great-grandchildren, Caleb, Jordan, and Logan Head all of Cleveland. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephew, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at 10:00 am in the Western Heights Baptist Church Sanctuary with Rev. George Boston and Rev. David Head officiating. Burial will conclude at Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
