Dorothy Buttram, Cleveland resident since 1968, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at her home in Cleveland at the age of eighty-two years, ten months and three days.

Dorothy was born August 23, 1919 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Clyde C. and Opal Lola Lynch. Dorothy was raised and attended school in Pawnee.

Shortly after the completion of her schooling, Dorothy was married Robert W. Buttram on May 23, 1939. The couple made their initial home in Pawnee but moved to Dewey, Oklahoma until 1954 when they moved to Wichita, Kansas. They had six children, Darlene, Wayne, Virginia, Butch, Janie and Kathy. While residing in Wichita, Dorothy worked for Stanley Hardware for several years. Dorothy moved to Cleveland in 1968 and immediately accepted employment with Safeway where she worked as a checker for nearly seventeen years, retiring in 1985.

Dorothy enjoyed cooking meals for her children and grandchildren and specifically loved baking. She was an avid country western dancer, she liked the two step and the western swing. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her children and grandchildren and ensuring that they knew who was the boss. She also enjoyed camping and fishing with her close friend, Alva Carruth. She considered her greatest accomplishment as being the mother of six wonderful children. Dorothy attended the First Assembly of God Church in Cleveland.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in- law, Darlene and Bill Hockenbery, Tulsa, OK; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Beverly Buttram, Mannford, OK; daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Roy Trotter, Grove, Oklahoma; twin son and wife, Butch and Annie Buttram, Houston, TX; twin daughter and husband, Janie and Tiny Nottingham, Grove, Oklahoma; daughter and her husband, Kathy and Ronnie Guinn, Cleveland, OK; sister, Zerna Lawson, Bethany, OK; special friend, Alva Carruth, eleven grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert; and two great grandchildren, Kendall Buttram and Brook Nicole Guinn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, June 27, 2002 at the First Assembly of God Church in Cleveland with Pastor Dan Edens officiating. Musical selections will be sang by her grandson, Rusty Hockenbery. Serving as pallbearer will be Steve Taylor, Steve Yates, Darren Buttram, Mike Buttram, Cody Guinn, and Chad Guinn. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery in Pawnee under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
