Delane Sykes, life-long Hominy/Cleveland area resident, passed away Friday, December 17, 2004 at the University of Pittsburg in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He was thirty-three years old.

Delane was born July 3, 1971 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was the son of Marvin Ruben Sykes and Mary Elizabeth Ross. Delane was raised and attended school in Hominy, graduating from Hominy High School in 1989. While attending high school, Delane was active in the Hominy Band, playing the trumpet.

Upon graduation from high school, Delane attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa for a semester. During this time, Delane also played a guitar for a local college band, Roustabout.

Delane later accepted employment as an apprentice electrician for Richard Casebolt at Arc Electric in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Delane was married to Terri Lynn Casebolt on June 29, 1991 in Cleveland. The couple had three children, Beth, Zachary and Lucas. Delane continued to work for Arc Electric as a journeyman electrician for nearly ten years before retiring in 2001 for medical reasons.

Delane was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Hominy. He loved music and played the guitar as well as writing music. He was a member of a local band called Lone Wolf in which he played lead guitar. Additionally, Delane enjoyed hunting and working on cars.

He is survived by his wife, Terri, of the home; three children, Elizabeth Marie Beth Sykes, Zachary Delane Sykes and Lucas Mathew Sykes, all of the home; mother, Mary Ross, Hominy, Oklahoma; father, Marvin Sykes, Hominy, Oklahoma; six sisters, Anna Healy, Chicago, Illinois, Teresa Sykes, Hominy, Oklahoma, Jessica Sykes, Hominy, Oklahoma, Crystal Weaver, Hominy, Oklahoma, Shara Sykes, Hominy, Oklahoma, and Fonda Cotton, Hominy, Oklahoma; three brothers, Robert B. J. Johnson, Des Moines, Iowa, B. J. Cotton, Hominy, Oklahoma and Shaun Sykes, Hominy, Oklahoma; paternal grandparents, Robert and Evelyn Johnson, Leon, Iowa; paternal grandmother, Opal Sykes, Hominy, Oklahoma; and father and mother-in law, Richard and Gloria Casebolt, Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Delane was preceded in death by his Neenaw, Ruth Eddings, a grandfather, Ruben Sykes and his father, Bobby Johnson.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, at the First Baptist Church in Hominy with Carl Brown officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service. Arrangements where under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
