Darrel was born on May 18, 1939, in Terlton, Oklahoma. He was the third of four children to Austin Richmond and Mary Stella (Hudson) Woodrell. He attended school in Terlton graduating with the Class of 1957. In Cleveland, Oklahoma on September 26, 1958, Darrell was united in marriage to Madelyn Carroll Hewitt at her parents' home. Following high school Darrel worked a short time with his father on the pipeline and later returned to Oklahoma where he accepted a position in Sand Springs with Flynt Steel. After a couple of years with Flynt, in 1961, Darrel began working for Southwestern Bell and was station at the Cleveland office for many years before transferring to Tulsa, Oklahoma. After 40 years working for Southwestern Bell Cooperation, Darrel retired in 2001. Following his retirement Darrel found great satisfaction in the never ending hard work on the farm and spending time with family and friends.

Most of all in life Darrel was a very committed and loving husband, father, uncle, brother and member to his church. He loved his family and there was no sacrifice too big or small that he would not make for them. He was often sought after for help and his expertise with constructing buildings, electrical, plumbing, farming and much much more.

Darrel loved to fish, hunt, play cards, collect antiques, go to auctions and travel the mid and western states and through the Rocky Mountains in his 5th wheel travel trailer with the love of his life, Madelyn. He enjoyed going to and watching high school, college, and professional sports. Darrel enjoyed woodworking and he created many unique pieces of furniture and art from the cedar trees he harvested from his farm. In 2010 Darrel, at age 71 decided to harvest over 200 cedar trees using just a chainsaw, mill the logs to make lumber and build his dream cabin on the hill that overlooked his farm with the help of his wife Madelyn. Darrel enjoyed giving tours of his cabin, his farm and showing off his antiques.

Survivors are his wife Madelyn, two children Mark Woodrell and his wife Stacy of Seattle, Washington, Paul Woodrell and his wife Tammy of Cleveland, Oklahoma, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
