Clarence Dee Atkinson

Clarence Dee Atkinson was born on February 14, 1923 in Hominy, Oklahoma. He was the son of Francis ìFrankî and Ethel (Brannon) Atkinson. Clarence was raised in Hominy and received his education in Hominy and played football for the Hominy Bucks team. He was determined to enter in to the service of his country at a young age. With his persistence, Clarenceís parents finally signed consent for him to join the U.S. Army. When he became of age, he joined the United States Navy. Clarence was united in marriage to Norma Allen while he was in the service and to this union there were three children born Clarence D., Deann and Alan. When Clarence was honorably discharged from the United States Navy, he returned and accepted employment at a local cement plant in Dewey, Oklahoma before gaining employment at Walkerís Feed Store in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Clarence later accepted a position with Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, Oklahoma as a mechanic and progressed to shop foreman. He spent most of his years of employment with Phillips Petroleum in various locations in Texas. He transferred to the new shop in Shidler in 1982, before retiring in 1985, and moved back home to Hominy where he could fish and hunt with his older brother. On November 20, 1976, Clarence was united in marriage to Donna Paxson and became father of two daughters Judy Amey and Becky Marinelli. Clarence loved spending time with his family and enjoyed fishing and playing with his grandchildren. Clarence passed from this life on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at his home in Hominy, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years and seven months. Survivors are his Donna of the home, children Deann Miller and her husband Charles of New Braunfels, Texas, Alan Atkinson and his wife Lisa of Tulsa, Oklahoma, step daughter Judy Amey and her husband Virgil of Cambridge, Kansas, Becky Marinelli of Derby, Kansas and a eleven grandchidlren, eighteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and a hosy of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son Clarence D. Atkinson, parents Frank and Ethel Atkinson, three sisters Clara, Etta Mae and Ineva; two brothers Albert and Walter Atkinson as well as Norma (Allen) Atkinson. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, September 19, 2011 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Chaplain Terry Snelling officiating. Burial will follow in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
