Funeral services for longtime Cleveland resident Charles Willis Vaughn, Jr. will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 16, 2006 in the Sanctuary of the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Dan Edens and Ronald Reed officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.

Pallbearers will be Richard Hill, Richard Hall, Troy Childress, Darrell Smith, J.C. Teasley and Jim Bowling. Honorary Pallbearers will include Danny Bayouth, Bill Cox, and Charlie Swart.

Charlie was born October 28, 1953 in Tulsa, Oklahoma the son of Charles Willis, Sr. and Zelta Bea (Reed) Vaughn. Charlie grew up in Sand Springs attending Twin Cities School through the 7th grade. In 1966, Charlie moved with his family to Cleveland where he began the 8th grade. Charlie graduated from Cleveland High School with the Class of 1971. After high school Charlie gained employment with the Hoerner Box Plant in Sand Springs. Mr. Vaughn then later joined the Pipeliners Union 798 in Tulsa, where he began working a welderís helper. While working as a welderís helper Charlie obtained his Journeymen certification as a pipe fitter. Charlie worked as a pipe fitter until 1979. He then accepted a position with Bobís Auto Repair. Mr. Vaughn worked for Bob Lampkin for a several years and later opened his own repair shop Vaughns Muffler on Broadway. In the early 1990ís, Charlie gained employment with the City of Cleveland. While working for the City of Cleveland, Charlie obtained his license as a Water Treatment and Sewer Plant Operator. At the time of his certification, Charlie was promoted to Supervisor of the Water and Waste Water Treatment Plants. He was in charge of complying with numerous regulations to make sure that each and every citizen of Cleveland had safe drinking water as well as disposing of sewer waste appropriately. Charlie retired in 2006, from the City of Cleveland after being diagnosed with Lou Gehrigís Disease.

Charlie was a man that loved being outside. He also spent countless hours chasing his dogís coon hunting as well as waiting in the bitter cold for the perfect buck to come by deer hunting. Charlie also had a passion to build the perfect hot rod, which he accomplished numerous times. Most of all Charlie was a man that would help anyone in need with nothing expected in return. Mr. Vaughn was a one to never condone or condemn a person for their actions. People have often said that Charlie was a gentleman with a big heart filled with compassion. Charlie loved all animals from dogs to horses. Charlie was also a member of First Assembly of God Church in Cleveland and the Pipeliners Union 798 for over 30 years.

Charlie passed away after a courageous fight Tuesday, December 12, 2006 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 53 years 1 month and 14 days. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Survived by his loving son Charles Jacob Vaughn, of the home; step son Michael Sisson of Cleveland, Oklahoma; mother and father Charles and Bea Vaughn of Cleveland, Oklahoma; brother Gaylen and his wife Stacey Vaughn of Cleveland, Oklahoma; sister Vicki Vaughn of Cleveland, Oklahoma; niece and nephew, Caitlyn and Lucas as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
