Carol Jean Wilson

Carol Jean Pruett was born on January 29, 1934, to Albert and Mildred (Holmes) Pruett. Carol was the 4th child born into a home of 9 children. The family resided in Ponca City, Ok. where Carol & her siblings worked on the family farm & attended school. From a very young age, Carol was a humble & hard worker, but she still loved to have a good time. She enjoyed camping, fishing, water skiing & loved traveling with her daddy's band listening & dancing to his magical fiddle. Carol loved adventure; she grew up with love & laughter & spreading joy wherever she went.

On December 13, 1948, she married the love of her life, Donald Wayne Wilson, & for the next 68 years, they remained loyal to one another, & respected each other, all while growing and building their family legacy. They would welcome three children into their home during their marriage. In 1949 their first son was born, Donald Gene followed by their daughter in 1952, Sherry Lynn.

Carol and Donald would eventually settle in Sacramento, California by 1959. Here, they would raise their two children. Carol was a hard worker & a terrific wife & mother. She took care of the household needs all while working in a sewing factory. It wouldn't be long though that Carol would bring home another baby & in 1966 her first grandson Donny was born. Carol adored & doted over her new grandson.

Carol and Don decided they wanted some adventure & in 1976, along with their now three children, they decided to open "Do it in the Dunes", an ATV & dune buggy rental business in the sand dunes of Pismo Beach California. Living life "a bit dirty" they had tons of fun, & they made many friends & even more memories. After some time spent in California, Don & Carol along with Donny would move back to their Oklahoma roots, deciding to call Cleveland, OK, their new home. In 1980 their determination and perseverance allowed for them to build their beautiful log cabin home out in God's Wilderness. They also opened a family business, Don's Muffler Shop, that serviced the community until 2007. It was here in Cleveland that they provided love, protection, security & made memories for the family legacy that we know today.

Carol loved her family & cherished every moment spent with each of them. She enjoyed fishing in Corpus Christy, TX each year with her in-laws Dink & Betty Wilson. And for 18 years she enjoyed traveling to both Branson and Texas with her siblings, where they would rent cabins on the lake, cook, laugh, and exchange gifts during the Christmas season.

Because family was so important to Carol, she was known for her commitment to the annual family reunion. Organizing everything that was instrumental in welcoming such a large family in one space. She was known to take charge of all the planning right down to the locations & the entertainment for the evening dance. She loved bringing all her family & the families of her siblings together in one place.

Carol always enjoyed the hustle & bustle of the holidays. She loved the excitement of big family gatherings. She could always be found wearing her apron in the kitchen & taking pride in her homemade cooking while filling bellies & fulfilling smiles.

She had a passion for life, & she loved to sew. Her love for sewing was something very special between her & her grandkids. She was always making things for them. From school clothes & square-dancing shirts, to costumes, cheer uniforms, & pageant dresses. She loved to see them wear her creations. She took pride in her talent and her ability to teach the art of sewing. A gift she would pass down too many of her granddaughters.

Carol loved her grandkids. She was so proud of each of them. Whether they called her nana or grandma, she was always hands on. She could always be found cheering them on at their Baseball Games, Dance Competitions, Wrestling Matches, School Programs, & was present for as many events & activities as there were. To Carol, her grandkids hung the moon.

Carol had a servant's heart & she was a faithful follower of Christ. She enjoyed volunteering at the local food bank, cooking at the local Masonic Lodge, & she was an active member of The First Baptist Church in Cleveland. As a Christian, it was important for Carol to spread the gospel & impact as many around her as possible. She raised & guided her children, grandchildren, & even great grandchildren under God's watch, knowing the importance of having a personal relationship with Jesus, & because of this she played a pivotal role in so many of her family and friends salvation.

Carol Jean Wilson passed peacefully from this earth on Sunday March 12, 2023, with her family by her side. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Donald Wayne Wilson, one son Donald Gene Wilson, one grandson Tony McGee, one brother, & 7 sisters.

Carol is Survived by her daughter Sherry & husband Ken McGee of Cleveland, OK., her grandson/son Donny & wife Arleta Wilson of Cleveland, OK., and one sister Kathy & husband Michael Lee of Arlington Texas.

7 grandchildren: Tina & Darren Gregory, Toby lnkman, Kelly lnkman, Wendy & Ted Lamb, Tamara & Grant Gill, Bobby Wilson, & James Wilson, along with 20 great grandchildren & 10 great great grandchildren.

Carol was adored and loved by all. She was the monarch, the matriarch, & the glue of the family. Her determination, loyalty, faithfulness, & passion for life give us invaluable lessons & serves as an example of what love looks like, & who love is.
