(Butch) Robert Wilson Buchanan

Robert Wilson Buchanan III, better known to his family and friends as “Butch” passed from this life on February 12, 2019, at the age of 71 at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Butch was born on September 10, 1947, in Hominy, Oklahoma. He was the son of Robert Wilson, Jr. and Muriel Willie (Shipman) Buchanan. Butch grew up and attended school in Osage, Oklahoma later graduating from Cleveland High School with the Class of 1965. Butche served his country in the United States Army from 1966 throught 1969 spending his deployment in Germany. Following high school, Butch attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Butch returned to Cleveland and began working for the railroad until 1972. At that time, he moved with his family to Texas. In 1974, Butch returned to Moore, Oklahoma and gained employment with a security company. In the early 1980s, Butch returned to the Cleveland area and started working for the City of Mannford as a dispatcher. In the mid-’90s, Butch retired and started volunteering at Cleveland with the fire department as well as a first responder. After returning to Cleveland Butch worked as the sporting goods manager at Walmart.
Butch enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandbabies. He was a 32nd Degree Mason as well as a Shriner and took several trips escorting children to the Shriner’s Hospital in Texas. He was an avid baseball, NASCAR and St. Louis Cardinal fan. However, he was a staunch OSU Cowboy fan with lots of memorabilia. People would often see Butch with his buddies at the McDonalds for morning coffee and discussion session. He was very well versed with the Bible and studied it quite extensively. He spent a multitude of hours researching the meaning of the Book. Butch was also a poet with numerous poems in his library. He has been a long time and faithful member of the Western Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors are his son Robert IV “Buck” Buchanan and his wife Angel of Cleveland, Oklahoma, daughter Jennifer Daigle-Wicker and her lifepartner Minnette of Baton Rouge, Lousiana; sister Linda Warford and her husband Phil of Moore, Oklahoma, four grandchildren Rilee, Gentry, Braiden and Wils, nephew Travis Warford and his wife Tiffany of Edmond, Oklahoma as well as many other relatives and friends that will mourn his passing. Butch was preceded in death by his parents Robert, Jr. and Muriel Buchanan.
Services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, February 18, 2019, at the Western Heights Baptist Church with Rev. David Head officiating. The VFW Fifth District Rifle Team will provide military honors. Burial will be held privately in the Osage Cemetery. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
