Birl Maxwell

Birl Maxwell went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday, May 31, 2013 at the age of 98 years one month and twenty three days. Birl was born April 8, 1915, in Kingston, Arkansas. He was the son of George Walker and Mary Myrtie (Griggs) Maxwell. Birl came to the Sinnett Area southeast of Cleveland at the age of seven in a covered wagon with his family. Birl resided with his family on a farm in Sinnett for several years before moving into Cleveland. After completing his education Birl first worked at Sallee Transfer and Storage hauling mail from the railroad depot to the post office. On July 5, 1939, he was united in marriage to Hylda Madge Hazlip. They later moved to Wichita, Kansas and Birl gained employment with Sante Fe Railroad where he worked for a couple of years. The couple returned to Oklahoma in 1959, and purchased a farm in Silver City. Birl and Hylda built and had just completed their home when it was destroyed by a tornado. They rebuilt their home and continued to live on the farm until 1990; when they moved to Cleveland. During the time in Silver City, Birl raised cattle and horses. Birl and Hylda loved to travel with their RV. They visited about forty states and sand together many times in church and made many tapes. Birl was an avid calf roper for many years. He was also very active in The Church of God for many years and a very devoted husband to his wife Hylda for over 68 years. Survivors are his adopted family Bill and Debbie Weiesbach, their two children Wesley and Quinton and their children Kadena and Trinity Weiesnback as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and friends. Birl was preceded in death by his parents, wife Hylda on November 3, 2007, four brothers Jasper, Winnefred, Troy and Birtle Maxwell and two sisters Opal and Lizzie. Services will be held 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at the Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Gary Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
