Billy Don Horton

Billy Don Horton was born April 18, 1932 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He was the son of J. T. and Bertha Jane Horton. Billy was raised in the Wekiowa Hills area of Sand Springs and attended school there.

Upon completion of his education, Billy worked for the Sand Springs Home farm for a few years before joining the service of his country. He served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Command after attending jump school in Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon his honorable discharge, Billy returned to Oklahoma where he began a career in the oil industry.

He initially was employed as a roughneck on a drilling rig in Payne County near Cushing. As he progressed in his career, he became more knowledgeable in the science of oil production and drilling and was hired as a consultant by Triton Engineering. During the next thirty-five years, he was employed as a drilling consultant throughout the United States and all over the world by Parker Brothers, H and P, Flint Company, Belco Petroleum and City Services.

Billy was married to Linda Lou Duggan on December 27, 1976 in Reno, Nevada. Although Billy was still working in various places throughout the world, the couple established their home in Santa Rosa, California. They remained there until Billy retired in 1986 at which time they moved to Prue, Oklahoma. Billy enjoyed gardening and loved to work in his yard. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Prue.

Billy passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2003 at the Saint John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of seventy-one years, six months and twelve days. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Melvin Horton and a sister, Jeweldine Whiteley.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Horton, of the home; children, George Horton, Huntington Beach, California, Rodney Marlin and wife Bernadette, Prue, Oklahoma, Mary Anne Horton, Huntington Beach, California, Todd Marlin and wife Christy, Kellyville, Oklahoma, Laurie Ann Tyner and husband Bob, Prue, Oklahoma; Grandchildren, Kayla, Lisa, Leann, Laci, and Rachel Marlin and Alec Tyner; and two sisters, Wanda Richardson, Sand Springs, Oklahoma and Carol Lawson, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, November 3, 2003 at the Assembly of God Church in Prue, Oklahoma with Rev. Mike Griffin and Rev. Garry McDevitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland.
