Bill Stalling

Howard Lee Stalling, known to his family and friends as Bill, was born February 12, 1926 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was the son of Luther and Lucille Stalling. Howard was raised in the Knoxville area, attending school and receiving his education there.

Shortly after completing his education, Bill accepted employment working for the railroad in the Knoxville area. He continued working for the railroad laying track for several years and then was hired working for an asphalt laying company for hiway construction. He later moved to California for several years before moving to Oklahoma.

While residing in Oklahoma, Bill worked for several years for Turnbow Trailers in Oilton as a metal fabricator. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and he was an avid remote controlled aircraft builder and pilot. He also loved to tend to his garden and provide vegetables to his friends, neighbors and family.

Bill passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at the Tahlequah City Hospital at the age of seventy-nine years, eight months and three days. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Violet Ruse Stalling, two daughters, Hazel and Patty, two sisters, Dorothy and Peggy; and a grandson, Robert Osborn.

Bill is survived by six sons, Roger Stalling of Yale, Oklahoma, Richard Stalling, Terry Stalling, Gary Stalling, James Stalling of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Robert Stalling of Jennings, Oklahoma; daughter, Yvonne Merrell of Mannford, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren, numerous step grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Dan Edens officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
