Betty R. Rodocker

Betty R. Rodocker passed from this life on Sunday, September 9, 2012 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of seventy seven years, eight months and thirteen days. Betty was born on December 27, 1934, in Ozark, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Demus Elmer and Bonnie F. (Hopper) Childers. As a young girl Betty grew up in Ozark where she began her education. She later graduated from Ozark High School with the Class of 1952. Following high school Betty worked at the Model CafÈ in Ozark for several years. Betty then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and accepted employment with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in the cafeteria. While working at McDonnell Douglas Betty met the love of her life DeVern C. Rodocker, Sr. The couple was later united in marriage on June 22, 1957. They established their initial home in Tulsa and later moved to Cushing for a short time before returning to Tulsa. Following the death of her husband DeVern in 2007, Betty moved to Cleveland to be closer to her son and family. Betty enjoyed playing bingo, bowling and sewing clothes on occasion. However, bowling was her favorite pastime. She bowled on a league for many years at the Rose Bowl in Tulsa. Betty even attended the National Tournament in St. Louis and Las Vegas. Hospitality was a given for Betty, she would always have a table full of food no matter what time you might visit. Her favorite line was ìyou want a plate?î Betty loved to play video games with the grandchildren. She even bought an extra one for herself so she could play while the other one was in use. Betty took many trips with her family two of the most memorable trips were to the apple orchard to pick apples as well as to St. Louis to visit her sister which always included a meal at Shawís Garden. She also visited Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the Black Hills of South Dakota to name a few. However, the most important thing in her life was her family and grandchildren. Betty would go often to support them at games, school events, 4H and FFA shows. Survivors are her son DeVern C. Rodocker, Jr and his wife Penny of Cleveland, Oklahoma, one sister Janet Knox and her husband Larry of Warrenton, Missouri; grandchildren Dustin Chadwell and his wife Kayla, Greg Rodocker, Amanda Harmon and her husband Brad, David Rodocker, great granddaughter Darian Chadwell, Evelynn Harmon; three sisters in law Lillian Childers, Juaree Childers, Delores Martin as well as many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents Betty was preceded in death by her husband DeVern, Sr., two brothers Seldon Childers, Elton Childers and one sister Bernice Nichols. Church services will be held 10:30 am Thursday, September 13, 2012, at the Western Heights Baptist Church with Rev. David Head officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Friends may
