Benny Lee Varnell passed from this life on January 16, 2023, at the age of 88 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.


Benny was born on June 1, 1934, in Mannford, Oklahoma, the son of Floyd Lee and Myra Inez (Wilson) Varnell. Benny grew up and attended school in Old Mannford. While growing up Benny worked for John Robbins on a farm in Mannford. Ford Motor Company came to Tulsa looking for help Benny went and applied for the job accepting an assembly line position in Deerborn, Michigan. After six months and Benny wasn't fond of the cold weather, he returned to Oklahoma. He gained employment with Douglas Aircraft then later started with National Tank in West Tulsa. In December of 1953, Benny joined the United States Army and was a member of the B Company 702nd Armored Infantry Battalion. He was later honorably discharged in December of 1955. Benny returned to Oklahoma then started working for Yuba Heat Transfer in Tulsa. On April 20, 1957, Jean was united in marriage to Benny Lee Varnell in Huntsville, Arkansas. Following the couple's marriage, they resided in the Tulsa Area. He later began working for Pennett Machine Shop in Mannford fabricating scales for trucks. He then signed up with the Local 205 Pipefitters Union working at Piping Engineers until 1988. After the closure of Piping Engineers, Benny started for the Claybrooks brothers at ProFab in Mannford retiring in 1993.


Benny picked up playing the steel guitar and always enjoyed going to the Terlton Senior Citizens and playing. He also liked going to the Mannford Community Building on Saturdays playing as well. Going to Mexico, Colorado and Missouri were some of his favorite places to visit.


Survivors are four daughters Kimberly Dobson and her husband Kyle of Mannford, Oklahoma, Sharon Boggs and her husband Kevin of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lisa and her husband Gary Scott of Mannford, Oklahoma, Paula Finley and her husband Jim of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, brother Vernon Dale Varnell and his wife Patricia of Mannford, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren Jennifer Hixson, Shanna Madewell, Tyler Hallmark, Clay Dobson, Sierra Cobble, Sydney Evans, Holly Binau, Derek Highfield; seven great grandchildren Josh, Liam, Natalie, Melody, Carlisle, Isabella, Sophia and a host of other relatives and friends that will mourn his passing. In addition to his parents Benny was preceded in death by wife Jean, two brothers Danny Varnell and Mavis Varnell.


Services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the Friendship Community Church in Mannford, Oklahoma with Pastor Delores Terrill officiating. Burial will be held in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Mannford, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
