Funeral services for Anne Marie Whitten, will be held 10:30 AM, Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sandra Bach officiating. Friends may share a memory with the family at the funeral home or online at www.chapman-black.com.

Anne was born January 17, 1927, in Festus, Missouri. She was the daughter of Colonel Clarence Marvin and Adeline (Tripp) Jenni. Anne was raised and received her education in Festus where she graduated high school. Following high school, Anne attended Missouri University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology. Following graduation, Anne moved with her sister to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Anne accepted employment with Gulf Oil. During that time Anne was introduced to the love of her life Amos Daniel Whitten, Jr. Following a short courtship, Anne was united in marriage to Dan on June 27, 1954, in Los Angeles, California in a little neighborhood Presbyterian Church. The two resided in Moab, Utah for a short period before returning to Tulsa.

Anne later accepted a position with Jersey Production Research Center, then rising to the position of coordinator for the entire geology-geo physics section. During this time Anne became very active in the Republican Party. Anne and Dan later moved to the Cleveland Area where the two raised their son Jeff. At that time Anne worked from home and also with Dan when they formed their business TAP Petroleum.

Anne was very active in the Republican Party and served in many capacities. Some of them include former Republican vice chairman of the City of Tulsa, National Committee Woman for the Young Republicans for eight years. Attending meeting in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Atlanta and many other places. Anne then graduated into the Senior portion of the party where she served as Pawnee County vice chairman, chairman, Congressional District Representative, state committee, state central committee, state finance committee. Anne was also a voting member of the Oklahoma Delegation to the National Republican Convention with the final honor of being a state elector to cast a vote for Ronald Reagan.

Anne was also an active part of the First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland. She became an elder as well as past moderator of the local women’s organization, as past moderator of the women’s group in the Presbytery of Eastern Oklahoma, as the delegate to Central America to examine and advise Presbyterian women in that area as well as attending many national meeting of Presbyterian Women. During all of those activities Anne never once forgot she was a wife, mother, and grandmother to three beautiful granddaughters.

Even after all of those accomplishments and activities, Anne found time to paint China, spend time in the garden, bake and read romance and mystery novels. She and Dan also enjoyed dancing never worrying about where they may be. Most of all in life Anne loved her husband who she was totally devoted to and family whom she cared deeply for.

Anne passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016, in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years.

Survivors are her husband, Dan of Cleveland, Oklahoma; three granddaughters Stephanie Brown of Glencoe, Oklahoma, Jessica Cheatham of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Alyssa Whitten of Cleveland, Oklahoma; daughter in law Diana Whitten of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two sisters Carol Smythe of Kansas City, Missouri, Mary Braund of Oregon; great-granddaughters Liberty and Hunter Brown of Glencoe, Oklahoma and a host of other relatives and friends that will mourn her passing. In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her son Jeff Whitten and a sister Betty Gatchell.
