June Bartley

At the age of 82, Sylvia June Bartley walked through Heaven’s gate to be welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 4, 2018.

June was born June 28, 1935, at home in Pawnee County, Oklahoma. She was the daughter Ira and Myrtle Annabelle (Garrison) Carter. June grew up and attended Keystone School in the town of old Keystone. June was united in marriage to the love of her life Vernon Rex Bartley on April 18, 1953, one month before her graduation. Vernon went into the military in 1954, and the couple spent a short time stateside before being sent to Germany where they spent about a year. Before the birth of their first child, June returned to the Keystone area in 1956. Vernon was later discharged, and the two established their home in old Keystone until the installation of Keystone Lake. At that time the two-purchased property and built their current home.

June enjoyed sewing and knitting and belonged to a local knitting club for many years. She was also a league bowler for several years as well. June had a passion for reading. She spent many hours reading fiction, murder mysteries or anything that was written by Mary Higgins Clark. However, her favorite thing to read was her Bible. During the time the children were in elementary school June was very active in the PTA, served as a homeroom mother as well as a 4H leader.

June’s parents began taking their first granddaughter, Teresa, to church with them; soon June realized that was her responsibility as a parent and she began taking her and has been active in the church ever since. Her love of God and dedication was a great influence on Vernon giving his life to the Lord. She began teaching teenagers in Sunday School and worked diligently in Vacation Bible School every year. Later she taught the older adult class which continued for more than 20 years. Anyone who sat under her teaching was blessed and learned about God’s word. She had a strong love for her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She always put God first and her family next. June felt that the Lord would provide for her and her family as long as she put Him first.

June and Vernon were Charter Members of Oak Hill Church. Three families, the Merrimans, the Rhodes and the Bartleys, decided to start a church, which began in June & Vernon’s garage which was the sanctuary. Classes were held in several rooms of the house. It was a
couple of years before they found land and were able to build the very church we are in today.

In the late 1960’s, June began working at Pharmaseal in Mannford which is now Cardinal Health where they specialized in making hypodermic needles. She remained working there until her retirement in 1993.

June and Vernon loved to travel. They initially converted a school bus and used it for summer traveling as the kids were growing up. Later they upgraded to a motor home and traveled throughout the Rockies, Ozarks and Smokey Mountains. Upon retirement, they took a two month trip to Alaska with one of Vernon’s brothers and sister and their spouses in one motorhome which made for an eventful trip.

Survivors are her husband Vernon Bartley of the home, four children Teresa Morrow and her husband Clayton of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Ricky Bartley and his wife DeeAnna of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Ronnie Bartley and his wife Jennifer of Adairsville, Georgia, Robbie Bartley and his wife Keri of Owasso, Oklahoma; one sister Joy Murr and her husband Gene of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; one brother Gary Walker and his wife Sandy of Mannford, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter as well as a host of other relatives and friends. June was preceded in death by her father Ira Carter, parents Annabelle and James "Slim" Walker, one brother Charles Carter and a sister Sharon Goddard.

Pallbearers are Evan Lowrance, Justin Patterson, Christian Franklin, Bryton Bartley, Coen Bartley, Kyler Bartley and Sean Kirtley.
